I think no matter how far away I get from that day, it will always be an emotional and somber day for me. And no, I will never, ever forget.

I'm going to the annual memorial ceremony in this rural PA county. The park is maintained and remembrance is staged by a mother who lost her only child in the tower that day. He'd only worked for Marsh Mclennan five days. He was 25 years old. This evening will will remember everyone.

When you retire from the fire service, you have to turn in all the gear you're issued when you're first hired. It's called bunker gear. Just yesterday I was cleaning out a closet. I looked up at the top shelf and saw two beat-up helmets with "J. Bowles" across the back of one and "M. Bowles" across the back of the other, plus our ID numbers. Mine and my husband's. Our department lets their firefighters keep their helmets and their badges. Sarasota, FL. President Bush was in our town that day. A few of our finest medics and firefighters were sent to follow his motorcade.

I know what it's like to run into a burning building and feel fear, you do it anyway. But a high rise fire is an entirely different animal. I can not imagine what the firefighters of NYC went through. What everyone when through. The horror of that day is excruciating, still. We Will Never Forget

Keep it always in mind and prove it to yourself this year by going to vote.

If you have to risk your safety anywhere, risk is at a polling place.

I still remember...

I was working from home that day, because my wife and I had a medical appointment. (One which resulted in our own really bad news; but our tragedy pales in comparison to that of the day.) Around 9:00, the phone rang. My wife said, "Hey turn on the TV. There's something on the news about a plane hitting the World Trade Center."
