Jed!

Jed!
This is Jed. I found him in a West Virginia petting zoo. His mama's a bobcat and his daddy's a raccoon.

He sheds profusely, bites tenderly and frightens the neighbors' dogs. He also slams doors at 4:30 a.m., which is when I wake up and write. He's an unpleasant cat, and I love him very much.

8-year lurker.

Jed looks like he may be part Maine Coon. He has the concave nose, head shape, and appears to have the ruff of a Maine Coon. One of my childhood friends had two kittens which were quarter bobcat. His cats were dead ringers for a Maine Coon.

The coat of the Maine Coon has three layers; they have tufts on the bottoms of their feet; they also have a rectangular flat—as opposed to rounded—torso.

I highly recommend them to anybody who wants to spend a great amount of time with a cat. Be cautioned, however: they are addicting.

Jed, you look unparalleled, not unpleasant. It's good to know you are well-loved. But go easy on the neighbors' dogs, would ya? :-)

OP: Thanks for sharing with us today. Love your writing style!

Sounds like Jed gets the whole "being a cat" vibe. He's a handsome feline.

I love West Virginia, so many strange things happen there when the shine starts to flow. Sometimes magic happens, like this fellow.

Congrats on finding this majestic beast, enjoy him to the fullest.

Jed is a cat among cats! I am currently cat-less in Seattle (well, in the outskirts of Seattle, anyway) but I have much appreciation for a feisty cat! One of my childhood cats used to torment a neighbor dog. She was not to be messed with.

Thanks for sharing Jed with us.

You can tell just by looking at him that Jed’s got VOICE.

Aw, hi Jed! Even if you're 1/16th alien, you're quite dashing.

I hope 8-year Lurker comments to explain how Jed slams doors? or why -does he know it wakes you up? There is a part of me that hopes so...

What a striking cat! And I love that you call him unpleasant, but love him anyway. I know some people like that...

Aww, I love when unpleasant kitties find their perfect humans. If I ever do have a cat again, I’d love a Maine Coon. There’s just something so special about kittycuddles... Plus, he’s gorgeous.

Welcome 8-year lurker! Reading this, an old Monty Python quote came to mind: "Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries." So I already love your sense of humour, even if that wasn't your intent.

Step out of the darkness and tell us a bit about yourself: what state/country/time zone are you in, what are you writing, where do you stand on the kale-as-edible issue?

Jed is magnificent. I'm also curious about the door slamming. Does Jed manage to stay on the right side of them or does he trap himself? My cat opens cupboard doors and lets them slam shut, but there are no latches involved so it can be rather incessant once she starts. I love her very much too.

I love Jed! He reminds me of my Lucy, who also affectionately bites. She is also a Maine Coon! And yes, they are addicting!

Tender cat bites are some of the best things that a cat can bestow upon a person! Jed looks magnificent.

8-year lurker here: Thank you all for your kind comments!

Jed opens screen doors from both sides, rattles storm doors by punching them (like a boxer at the bag), and doesn't care which side of a slammed door he's on as long as I get up. But I'll forgive him anything; he's surly but he's so damn soft.
