Ack! Help!!!

I'm attending Left Coast Crime in 2011 and attendees are asked to nominate novels for the LCC awards.  Of course, I can't remember the books I've read and loved this year, and like a true shinolaforbrains, I didn't keep a list. Plus the year isn't over!

Help!  In the comments column of this blog post please give me your suggestions for books that fit in these categories:

THE LEFTY:
Best humorous mystery novel

THE BRUCE ALEXANDER MEMORIAL HISTORICAL MYSTERY:
Best historical mystery novel, covering events before 1950

THE HILLERMAN SKY AWARD:
The mystery (short story to novel length) that best captures the landscape of the Southwest

THE WATSON:
Best sidekick in a mystery novel

To be eligible: works must have been published for the first time in the United States during calendar year 2010. If published in other countries before 2010, works are still eligible if they meet the US publication requirement.

No ideas, just loved the shinolaforbrains -- brings back fond memories of my father informing me of my lack of knowledge :)

I need to check my kindle and see if I've read any mystery published this year.

I have a Sidekick and possibly a Lefty: Bridget Matthews is the best friend of amateur detective Elizabeth Bowen in Tracy Kiely's Murder on the Bride's Side.

Bridget is the titular bride, but that doesn't mean she doesn't involve herself in "helping" Tracy solve the murder of her un-beloved aunt, who was murdered sometime during her wedding reception.

It's the second book in Ms. Kiely's series---does that matter? And her agent is Barbara Poelle . . .

I'm loving Timothy Hallinan's Poke Rafferty series. I haven't read QUEEN OF PATPONG (08/10) yet, but Rafferty has a Thai policeman named Arthrit who has been right there with him through the first three. A terrific nominee for THE WATSON.

Hallinan has even made me laugh a time or two, but I'm afraid they might laugh at you if you suggested these in the humorous category.

Regarading the Hillerman . . . did JA Jance have anything out this year? But it would be nice to have someone new . . .

I assume you're considering The Pericles Commission?

Lefty: Anything by Janet Evanovich. Fall off your couch funny.

I recently read The Maltese Falcon, but I suppose that it wasn't published this year.

Janet Evanovich has two out this year-haven't read them but the reviews aren't so hot.

Lefty: Bad Day for Pretty by Sophie Littlefield (does crime fic count?). Faces of the Gone by Brad Parks was also lots of fun, but misses the deadline by a few weeks.

Bruce Alexander: City of Dragons by Kelli Stanley. Great mystery with an ass-kicking female investigator set in the 1940's.

Loved Sue Ann Jaffarian's "Corpse on the Cob", very fun w/some dark moments! I'm nominating for Lefty.

Bruce Alexander:
Kelli Stanley's "City of Dragons".

Jeri Westerson's "The Demon Parchment" is due out Oct 12, so can't send in my noms until I've read it!!
