Reasons I love my job #28
This is one of the happiest days of my career.
This book started out with a query letter, a chapter, and a teddy bear.
Richard and I worked a long time to get it right.
He never gave up.
He never threw in the towel.
He did all the editing I asked without complaint.
And he never actually said some of the things I'm sure he was thinking.
Richard is a generation ahead of me; he built a successful ad agency and led the team that created some of the iconic advertising images of three decades. Yet, here he was, new to the book publishing world, being told what to do by some upstart agent who'd just hung out her shingle. It takes a guy with real character to do that.
I have the utmost respect for Richard Gilbert. Selling his book to Behler Publications was a great day. Seeing the cover art, getting the final copy finished is just icing on the chocolate cake of life.

C'mon, Janet, what's not to love about his wonderful book? It's been an honor and a pleasure.
The book looks like something my husband might enjoy. When will it be available?
...
How refreshing to see AN ENTIRE person on a cover! No truncated body parts. Amen. I read all the big advertising books in high school and college - Subliminal Seduction, The Hidden Persuaders, Confessions of An Advertising Man. This one is next. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Congrats to Mr. Gilbert.
A teddy bear?
Oh, happy day! Congratulations to you both. Now I'm going to go Google it and see how he did all that with a pencil and imagination.
I landed here:

and I hate to say I'm old enough to remember a lot of those ads, but I do, and I remember how much I wanted a London Fog trench coat.
"He never gave up.
He never threw in the towel."
Words to live by.
Congratulations!
