Gasp!

It's pretty quiet here in the city in August.

Although we do get some interesting visitors from out of town.

I'm on the couch reading, and it's been great to catch up on things.

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen is open right now.

The gasp aloud page was 161.

Are you reading anything that has a gasp aloud page?

I've settled into a re-read at the moment: The Lady Julia Grey cozy series, starting with book 1 "Silent in the Grave" by Deanna Raybourn.

There may not be a gasp page when you reread, but the first paragraph still grabbed me...

To say that I met Nicholas Brisbane over my husband's dead body is not entirely accurate. Edward, it should be noted, was still twitching upon the floor.

When I read Premee Mohamed's "A Broken Darkness," there were a couple of pages that elicited gasps, not least the final one. I then gave a disbelieving laugh and might have also clapped a single time after I closed the book.

Ha, I saw your tweet in response to someone complaining about all the "The wife"s... in book titles.
I hope you didn't need to 'reimburse' them?!

I've heard about The Wife Between Us, and I would definitely read it, too.

Samantha Downing's FOR YOUR OWN GOOD has too many gasp aloud pages to count. Crazy fun! I've read all of her novels, and I'm a big fan. :)

I saw Downing's MY LOVELY WIFE was a prize here on the blog - the winner is in for a wild ride. :)

I have a gasp every time I open a newspaper, or watch the news; so my regular reading is in simply bloody epic fantasies.

That is an escape from the real world.

My gosh, Craig, you're so RIGHT. Many of us can be grateful that it isn't our real world.

I'm reading Of Blood and Bone by Nora Roberts. No gasping so far but book one of this trilogy, Year One, was full of them.

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave - a real page-turner thriller. Loving it and looking forward to getting done with work so I can finish it tonight. Has a couple of moments that caused such a gasp that it startled my pug.

I gasped at the climax in In My Dreams I Hold A Knife by Ashley Winstead. It’s a fantastic thriller. I flew through it; I just couldn’t put it down. Love all the recommendations. My TBR list is growing infinitely longer.

I may or may not have gasped reading The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I was too busy reading to notice. Definitely jumped when Husband walked in during a tense scene!

Wife Between Us was a great little tale, I agree.

I just filled the room with multiple gasps from Taylor Adams' No Exit. I mean, you never get a chance to relax. Every time you think the protagonist has escaped for at least a moment to rest, she's just getting into deeper trouble. It's relentless gasping. But it's wonderful, edge-of-your-seat reading.

It has been way too long since I've read anything (fiction) that has made me gasp aloud. Since so many people here have such good taste, I'm taking notes - thank you!

I can't recall any recent gasp moments though I'm sure I've had some.

My most memoarble moment (to me) occurred when I was reading Ian Fleming' "Dr. No." in bed while in high school. When I read how Dr No dies (it's different from in the movie), I jumped out of my bed and fell on the floor.

That's getting your reader involved in the story!
