Waylon
came to us in November 2018. He's most-likely a Great Pyrenees and
Labrador Retriever mix, complete with six toes on his back feet!
We
adopted him through a rescue organization and he traveled from his own
state of Texas to Oregon. We quickly found out Waylon is a world class
counter surfer, and tall enough to rest his chin on the dining room
table. Thankfully, he's also very smart and realized he's not allowed to
use the table as a chin rest when we eat.
We're
still figuring out what he likes to read--we tried him out with a Bill
Cameron book after altering the title to one of his interests, but he
prefered his bone.
He's a little shy around new people, but he'll do
almost anything for a treat and loves to be petted so it's easy to coax
him out of his shell. He enjoys hanging out at cafes and coffee shops,
and nothing beats napping on his bed after a long hike.

Impossible not to love that face. :) He's such a handsome boy. I'm guessing he was a hurricane dog so he's double lucky to have you for a family.

I had to find out the other name for Chasing Squirrels. Turns out Chasing Smoke was preceded by a book titled ... Lost Dog! Oooh, very interesting.
Also interesting: the cat in the doorway in the first photo. What might kitty be plotting?

Thanks, everyone! One of Waylon's talents is the ability to wack himself in the face with his own tail. Yesterday, he leveled up: he licked me on the cheek while simultaneously hitting me in the face with his tail.
Nightmusic, we're not sure if Waylon was a hurricane dog or not, although the timing is possible. We know he was turned into an East Texas animal shelter in January '18 in bad shape, weighing 25 less than he does now (and he's still slightly underweight--we're working on gaining muscle). Luckily he was sponsored by a rescue group until he was ready to be adopted, and then a different rescue group took him until he found a new home.
Amy, the cat is Arabella. She's probably plotting a way to con me into giving her a second breakfast.
Oh, what handsome pup, with his jaunty red bandana! I love hearing pet rescue stories and you have a big kind heart, Sleepy One, to welcome this critter into your family. I'm cracking up at the cat in the first pic. She looks indignant in the way only cats can, when attention is being paid to others.

Waylon's pal (next to him in the first pic) made me think of the Queen's Alot. Trying to find a pic so I can tell if they really do resemble each other. Cousins perhaps?
I do like big dogs, I love their confidence in being dogs. It is good to see that Waylon still has his. Congrats Sleepy One for such a high quality rescue.
Be careful with the rawhides, though, I have that most of them come from third world countries or China, where their quality control is shaky, at best. I asked a local feed store, that vets recommend, and their rawhide chews are Chinese.
It(the bed pal in photo one) looks like a stuffed Droopy Dog to me.
Feeling foolish that I didn't realize earlier that the book Waylon is reading was written by one of Janet's clients. The description I read makes me want to put my MG TBR pile aside and dig in.

I always wished they could speak (in English). What interesting stories pets could tell.
Whatever his past may be, he really found himself a great home.
What a beautiful dog. I'm so glad he found such a loving forever home. I look at the animal shelter page now and again and contemplate adopting again, but refrain. One seems to be my limit right now.
Stories like this encourage me that there is just the right home for these lovely animals out there.
