Parade of Pets Day 14

T.A.R.D.I.S.

Who needs opposable thumbs when you have the magic of technology?

T.A.R.D.I.S., our resident reptile, is currently at work on his memoir. He's convinced the world needs to have a deeper appreciation for hibernation and leafy vegetables. He's also convinced he will get a flat advance to pad the bottom of his cage. We're trying to humor him (for now), but no one likes a drama king.

Cute! I suppose his nickname is T.A.R.D.Y., which would be very appropriate.

Oooh! I know who's turtle this is! :) Such a handsome fella.

I love turtles. We live in an area with lots of lakes. Big, small, puddle or pond, I probably save 20 turtles a year trying to cross the road. But most of the people in our area are very sensitive to the wildlife so that's good. And one always keeps them going in the direction they were pointed, of course.

TURTLE!!

I once had a "pet turtle", i.e. a box turtle that we found in the wood and my dad let me keep in the backyard and feed veggies for a few days before we brought him (her?) back.

Also, I was waiting for a dog day, but I'm bad at waiting....my latest short story "The Glint of Light on Broken Glass" is available to read in Truancy 5. I'm exceedingly pleased to close out 2018 with this one! (and have been perhaps excessively self promoting so people know it exists...)

Oh my gosh - so cute!

nightsmusic I save the turtles too!

This brings back memories of a box turtle we had when I was about eight years old. I'm not sure for how long, plus, I have no idea what sex it was, but the name I came up with was Cleo. So to me, it was a she. I had to set "her" loose when we moved, and it was the fastest I'd ever seen her go. I'm pretty sure she was happy to be back in her natural habitat.

Ooooh T.A.R.D.I.S!! Did you change the acronym to something more appropriate? Perhaps Turtles And Reptiles Delve In Swamps?

Love it, love it, love it.

I assume T.A.R.D.I.S. is a transdimensional tortoise of superior intelligence.

Donna I think I called "my" turtle Sheldon! (which may have come from the name of the giant snail on the Nickelodeon show "Pinwheel", I can't remember)

I love the pattern on T.A.R.D.I.S.'s shell. It speaks of a life well-lived. I would definitely read his memoir, and promise to more deeply appreciate leafy vegetables in 2019.

There's Colin's TARDIS the tortoise - I still think that's the perfect whovian name for a tortoise. Good to see he's working on that memoir

T.A.R.D.I.S., if you can make me appreciate leafy vegetables to the point where I want to eat them, I will buy 100 copies of your memoir. Deal?

By the way, how old are you? Is that rude to ask a turtle? I feel like it's about to be public knowledge anyway (bc of the memoir), so...

T.A.R.D.I.S. the tortoise, I get you on the hibernation thing. I SO get you.

Cool, I am not the only person with a tortoise to trip over. I would also guess that it is Colin's, due to his fascination with all things Who.

If any of you want to know: tortoises are herbivores; turtles are carnivores. Turtles also have webbed back feet.

They also don't actually hibernate, they go into torpor.

Yeah, this year is almost over. Here's to the promise of the next one.

I've never had a turtle or a tortoise. Strange, as I recall having spent much time with one. I also remember their, ah, scent.
