I meant to post a picture of the books available as contest prizes, but missed doing so while the contest was open.
Here t'is!
In the department of "I don't even know where to start" here's the email of the week:
My name is (redacted) and I am the author of (a number of ) published books so far and is currently in the process of writing others. I have self published all my books and love the control that I have over my work. I have gotten great reviews so far on Amazon and from people who have purchased my books. I am at the place in my writing journey where I need assistance along the way. I am determined to be a bestselling author. I am looking for an agent. I have been thinking about it for quite some time. Please let me know if that's a services that you provide. All my books are available at Amazon.com and all other online distributors. Thank you.

Ooh, a pile of books!
I wish Emailer the best. And some good sturdy hiking boots for that learning curve coming up!
Let me guess: you were one of a hundred recipients.
Umm... is that a new Peter Ash ARC?! Must have!
Books!!!!
Said a prayer for e-mail author. Hey, at least he/she/pronoun du jour has finished books.
What a stack of books!!
Emailer: O_o
Love the book stack!
And very ambiguous email...they love the control they have over their work...but are also looking for assistance along the way? Seems a bit counterintuitive...
Send the emailer one of Jeff Somers’ cats. They look hungrier than usual.
Sounds like Janet's Feelin' Groovy, but I might be reading too much into things.
At the risk of picking books for other folk, I think letter-writer person might select OUT OF THE DARK from your stack and hope it's a How-To tome.
It's not, of course. But being Gregg Hurwitz, it'll be a terrific read, so letter-writer will still benefit.
High recommendation for the Anthony Horowitz novel in that stack, even if you're not fortunate enough to win the contest.
Heard good things about Before The Fall too.
So the emailer god outstanding reviews from all six people who bought their book. That is Ma, Pa, sisters one and two, Aunt Betty and Uncle Ted. Sounds like it could be a winner.
So, Janet, like, you didn’t answer the question. Do you provide agents? ‘Cause if you do, I wanta’ know for how much and is there discount for ordering in bulk. Aside from that, is ground shipping free and what is the additional cost of second day air? Also, is there a sales tax on agents shipped to Arizona?
WHEN YOU FIND ME in Janet's stack, woohoo!
PJ, how great is that!?
I still remember how we chatted over coffees (once at -19°C outside!), you were still editing this piece and I was still in writer-diapers.
Now you're a grown-up, a STAR... making it here onto Janet's blog!
I'm so pleased for you, wishing you all the best. Only 9 days to go!
Katja.
One small observation for the emailer, included with a roll of quarters for the clue machine: I am determined to be a Grand Duchess, but buying that tiara on Amazon did not make me one.
Wow. I wish I'd been able to enter looking at this selection.
The email? I don't know where to go with that. Maybe Lennon said it best: O_o
Oh, yay! Re PJ Vernon's book, it will have its book launch here in Calgary in November 12, the first book launch for our rockin' brand new, state-of-the-art Central Public Library.
Is this stack of potential contest prizes to taunt those who didn't enter? :)
As for the "query"... errrm... welp (as my daughter would say). :)
IJ (18 months) spent half the afternoon chasing me and her grandmother with a shark finger puppet, laughing her head off as we squawked and jumped and ran. Just thought the Reef should know the next generation know the power of a good shark. I'm sure that poor dear emailer will learn.
I feel very sad for the e-mailer, but happy for the lucky folks who will win books.
1. I, too, am intrigued by Out of the Dark, but only because I have three books coming out this month with "of the dark" in the titles.
2. I, too, am bemused by the indie author's letter. They state they want an agent, but don't say what for? What are they expecting you to do?
Most other correspondence you get, I believe, have a pretty good indication of what they are expecting you to do: sell this particular novel.
As soon as you figure out what indie author wants, let the rest of us know. I, too, want to be a bestseller.
Oh man, I wish I would have entered. Kicking my lazy butt.
What a lovely stack of books. Good luck guys and gals.
To the emailer, I wish them luck and so hope they didn't mass send that. Hopefully, they do some reading soon and figure it out. Life is tough, there's no sense inviting the dungeon master to your home for a private session. Unless you enjoy that, in which case, I don't want to know.
Nice stack of books! I read Before the Fall via NetGalley; I really liked it! And Anthony Horowitz should also be great. I'm sure their all great, though that top one might do bad things to my blood pressure. ;)
* they're. Ugh.
