Cleaning out the video studio! a truck load of video tapes no one wants. We haven't shot on tape for at least 15 years. Getting ready to move to the beach sometime in the future.
And then The Seagull by Ann Cleeves. Ann is my adopted author for our local private library.
The library has a program where you adopt your author and sign on to buy all of their books as they come out. I thought Ann did not have enough recognition here in North Conway so she's mine now.
I'm quite pleased with the lovely book plate with my name on it.
Not a holiday for me, unfortunately, so busy getting ready to move. The piano I'd been keeping for a friend for about 15 years just went to a new home with her godson. Now the wall looks empty. I hope the whole house will look empty by the end of December.
Hope all of you are having a great weekend, whether you celebrate American Thanksgiving or not!
Had the stomach bug—and had to miss out on turkey day—so I've spent most of the weekend recovering. Today, I'm going to grab a blanket, throw on the some movies, and with any luck finish the latest round of revisions on my WIP so that I can send it out to my CPs.
And BJ, that is such an incredible gift. Back in undergrad, you know what I missed the most about home? my dog and my piano. Lots of Saturday nights, I'd trek across campus to the music rooms (so uncool, I know), and check out a key and go and pound out song after song in a tiny room all by myself. Man oh man did that help keep me sane.
I guess what I am trying to say that a piano, like a book, keeps giving and giving joy, and maybe to someone you least expect. I am sure yours will do so as well.
I'm heading to the park, where my dog and I will figure out an uncooperative plot point in my Nanoscript. But first ... the pie plate! (For me, not the dog.)
I have not read through it and do not know if it is complete, but there is a transcript:
The interview is worth watching.
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/07/10/world/amanpour-j-k-rowling-interview/index.html Authors who never sell anything may wince to learn Rowling has received tens of billions, and has never done anything but write.
She says she intends to continue writing even though as an immensely wealthy woman (she is richer than the queen) she does not need the money.
People who think there is no substitute for a word processor may be surprised, as I was, that she wrote her first book in longhand sitting in various cafes in Edimburgh.
Doing final revisions on my WIP. My husband read my frankendraft for the first time a month ago and I would like to think he now sees that I am serious about this novel publishing thing - he stopped being passive-aggressive about the hours I spend in front of the computer.
Megan, get well soon. Susan P., I read your post about your latest health episode. Virtual hugs and a kiss on your cheek for being tenacious.
As purple is my favorite color (I only avoid it when writing), I love it that this adorable guy's tongue looks light purply/lavendery on my screen.
I had best Thanksgiving ever in New York with my daughter. I think we walked the whole of the island of Manhattan. I came home to a surprize visit from my cousin from France.
Today, I did some early morning writing, then started decking the halls and all that jazz. Now, it is the usual Sunday stuff - laundry, house keeping, pug snuggling, long walk, a little reading and a bit more writing. Life is good.
After celebrating Thanksgiving with a crowd of 70, and making dumplings for them all, I’m baking a feast again with turkey and fixings. I like to do a full meal on my own to stay in practice and try new techniques. That’s totally why I’m spending the day in the kitchen. I am NOT avoiding sending queries.
Geez...! I want to say something personal to everyone who has commented thus far. Why oh why can't we gather on my porch?
Cecilia, Frankendraft. HA! Elise, NYC! My dream vaca. You little sickies, Be soon on the mend. John Dogs!
Okay, I'll stop. I'm just in from chores for a bit of hydration, then back at it. No holiday downtime here - but I did have pumpkin pie for breakfast. I trimmed the hooves of a few donkeys early this morning. Then spent several hours mowing. Now I'm creating more inventory for a booth I rent to raise money for the sanctuary. I'm using bead-board from the dilapidated shotgun house on our property to make frames for old bird prints. (Pics on my FB page for all you lovers of shabby-chic crafts). Happy Sunday...
No holiday weekend and it's Monday here. But when I find my desk again (task one, clean office) I'm hoping to start rewriting the 20k I deleted on revision on Friday (this time of year for me contracts dry up so yay writing time, boo no income).
Today I've been picking at the last of the Thanksgiving vegetarian roast. lol I plan to hang the lights on the Christmas tree after sending this. falalalala
Lennon: Those practice rooms are my son's second home. Today our church choir began working on a Christmas song he wrote. And mama got verklempt while we were practicing. Uugh, what an embarrassment I must be to my children. And you mentioned chocolate pecan pie? Chocolate pecan pie! I must find a recipe.
I'm so appreciative of this blog. For all the advice, and also for days like this when we get a chance to learn a bit more about others here on the Reef. Ms. Janet is one heckuva community builder.
Lennon: I'm glad my friend's godson said he wanted it. My mum doesn't have room for it, and I have to move from my house, so I'm glad it's going to a new loving home. I'm hoping I can get a small electric piano for myself to keep at Mum's. I'm not a great pianist by any means - I taught myself the wee bit I know - but it is nice to be able to make music at times. I do sing, though, so there is that.
Tomorrow's the day I move into Mum's. Then, it's all about trying to sell the house, so I have money to move everything else into storage. Twenty years of stuff is a LOT.
I couldn't pass the day up. 75 degrees, 6 mph breeze, humidity under 50%, wall to wall sunshine and an almost finished cold I caught from sitting in an airport for nine hours a few weeks ago. Had to wait for Allegiant to get a working plane to me.
Back to today. Loaded up the boats and hit the river. It was gorgeous enough that I didn't mind that the fishing sucked.
Still have some cheesecake. I have been trying to get a friend over for dinner but it hasn't worked yet, so the cheesecake waits.
Thanks for wishing me luck folks, I appreciate it. Hope those of you who are diseased go over in quickly.
Back to beating myself over the head with my synopsis.
If you're driving down from Sacramento, you'll be coming right past my house, in fact. Wave to the east as you go past [deleted for security] Mall.
Amusing coincidence: I was in Sacramento last weekend, for the West Coast Ragtime Festival. We may have to figure out some sort of event halfway between for next weekend!
Oh, late to the party! Kids and I helped a friend rake her leaves, then I spent the afternoon with my "book group." Never did get around to discussing the book. That happens if we go too long without getting together.
Now my daughter and I are trying to make a movie from video we took for her school project (about equine therapy). That conversation we had earlier about knowing the nuances of software. I'm 12 thumbs with this movie maker stuff.
Feel better all and have a good week writing, querying, and eating leftovers.
I plan on finishing up a few marketing posts, getting a few words down on the WIP, eating a slice of pumpkin pie, dusting the living room furniture, putting up the nativity scene and stockings, and ordering a few Christmas gifts. And tea. Lots of tea.
Hope everyone who has been under the weather is better soon.
Just got back from Friendsgiving. I got up at the crack of dawn (okay like 7:39) and made a bajillion biscuits (I lost count after 100 so I don't know how many), somebody else made turkey and beef roasts and amazing sweet potato stuff, etc. etc. etc.
I'm late to this post because I was caring for a Curious George-addicted toddler until last night. Her parents are nurses and were working. Holidays are busy times in the ER and ICU.

Recovering too, but in a good way. Writing. And when no one is looking, snitching leftover chocolate pecan pie!
Megan, I hope you are feeling better!

Sharyn,
Libraries! Such a cool idea yours is running.

Christianne Amanpour interviewed J.K. Rowling on CNN yesterday, and the interview was so super I decided to check and see if it is online.
It is.

Even if querying is hard...
My pies are long gone. Polishing queries today.
I'm spending my last day of the holiday missing the Chum Bucket ... whatever happened to that gem?
Doing some pre-rainy season maintenance on the catio. In the rain. Timing is everything.
Reading fairy tales, looking for something I can steal--pardon me, I mean adapt--for my current WiP.
Going to see Tori Amos.
All after sleeping much later than I usually manage.
Casey! I am going to see Tori Amos too! Are you in the Oakland area? I am driving in from Sacramento!

Napping after weekend in a left-over pie coma. I'll roll myself to work tomorrow.
Yawn.
Burp.
Zzzzz.....

I'm digesting feedback from my CPs on 3 different picture book manuscripts and revising like mad. No pie, but I'm on a roll...
Karen, yes, I am. Richmond, specifically.
