Sunday's contest results

I was in the office yesterday so I decided an impromptu contest was just thing to keep me amused while I reviewed royalty statements (yes, I know, I live a life of such glamour!)

Herewith the results

oh so macabre this lovely Sunday morning!
CynthiaMc!
Amy Schaefer!

And just to up the ante,
there's E.M. Goldsmith!

If you three ever get together, I think Hamlet will spontaneously stage itself!

Here are the finalists!

Steve Forti, in full Fortissimo Form
just left. it's hot & funky in there. fair warning.

dayum! u no kidding! nasty! turn on a/c!

c?

use d
eodorant, dude! gross :(

at some point we're just going to have to start handicapping Steve with some extra rules or something. He's so hilariously brilliant it's just not fair.

Colin Smith
“J’accusé!” declared the detective.
“Je me repent!” declared the accused.
“Je pardonne,” said the wronged to the penitent.
“Je m'en fous,” grinned the executioner.
In French no less.
Impromptu French no less.

Kathy Joyce
Not amused to be bruised, I accused.
He lied, denied, took me for a ride.
I fought, he's caught.
No bail, jail.
Now I'm amused.
I love the rhythm of this.
Kat Waxlawik
Accused.
Red hands: dead giveaway.
Convicted.
Unrepentant. Exultant.
Maximum penalty.
Time out: ten minutes.
Crimson foyer masterpiece: permanent

You were thinking it was some bloodthirsty crime no doubt (me too)--particularly
after Elise, Cynthia and Amy did their double bubble entries above.
A twist in 13 words is pretty damn amazing. And bonus points for alluding to paint
without saying the dreaded word.

FanManFan
I axed to be accused and so they let me go.
And this just cracked me up completely.
I love the word play.
Of course this is the winner!

Congrats FanManFan. Email me with your mailing address and I'll get a copy of Accused in the mail to you. If by some chance you've already read it, I've got some other terrific books here that need good homes.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to write and post entries. You really brightened up my day, and I thank you for it!

And for those of you guessing the number of requested fulls yet to be read: you're all wrong. And too low. I counted them up this morning, and that odd sound you hear is me weeping shark tears into an already salty ocean.

Congrats FanManFan!

Thanks for listing me among the finalists, Janet. An honor, to be sure. You guys are so very creative. As for how to handicap Mr. Forti... that sounds like a prompt for the next impromptu contest. :)

How fabulously clever, FanManFan. Congratulations.

Excellent job, finalists. I was in a very creepy mood yesterday - editing a bit of my WIP that makes my stomach curl. So it spilled over into the unexpected contest. Oops.

Anyhow, it's pretty impressive what this group can do with 25 words and a single prompt.

Congrats FanMan! Such succinct, concise writing!

And what fun entries to read through.

Yeah FanMan! Thanks for the mention, Janet.

Janet: We guessed too few requested fulls?? I saw some guesses in the 40s and higher! You must either be very generous, or you get a lot of interesting queries in your inbox. Too much rum in the chum, perhaps...? ;)

Wahoo!!! Thank you for the finalist nod!

Congratulations, FanManFan!

A while back, I charted out how little free time I have and decided I needed to cut out comments and contests (and myriad other distractions) to ensure the WIPs actually stayed IP. Took a break yesterday because it was only a flash flash contest. (That barely counts, right?)

Anyway, I'd forgotten how lovely and warm the reef waters are. I miss y'all!

Kat: Hey there, Kat! I especially liked your entry--well done! I thought long and hard--at least for five minutes--over whether to include this one on the spreadsheet. The fact that I was a finalist almost swayed me, but in the end I decided that since it was impromptu, with only one rule, not really requiring the pieces be stories, and would potentially exclude talented writers in other time zones, I wouldn't count it.

So no, it doesn't count. ;)

I read FanMan's entry yesterday and just simply said, "Whoa." So clever and hilarious. A well deserved win...

Good stuff, all across the board.

Congrats FanManFan! Great entry, and great name to boot.

Tip 'o the hat to the mentions and finalists. I also cracked up at Rosanna's revenge laundry and Timothy's glamping . Glamping. Just saying that word kills me.

Thanks for another fun contest, Janet :-)

Congrats to FanManFan! So short and yet no other words are needed.

Thanks for the shout out Claire. I either had laundry or revenge on the mind yesterday, and that's what came out. Fun contest, Janet!

Congrats FanManFan!

I didn't get to the computer until nearly suppertime my time. I missed the contest. :(

(((hugs))) Janet. I know that overwhelmed feeling far too well.

Thanks, Claire. Yours was very evocative. Love the language you used.

I thought the entries for this contest were particularly strong. Loved Kat's - glad it got picked as a finalist.

Congrats FanMan!

I have to admit that I was thick as a brick all weekend. I felt pressure from so many sides, so many sides. It took me three or four tries to get FanManFan. So congrats to you and to Kat for coming out of the woodwork and posting that jewel.

I would also like to apologize for trashing a most excellent song with such a clunky piece of writing. The song came to me about five minutes after the box contest and would not leave me alone. Maybe we'll see another box contest someday and I'll use it.

Congrats, FanManFan (what is the story behind the name?), and all you other mentions and entries. I had some chuckles (and some eeeps)!

Great stuff. Well done, FanMan.

I just missed the entry window, so it's a relief to know I wouldn't have been in the same ZIP code as the podium.
