WIR, like JR, is awol

Hello Reader friends!
Yes there is no WIR because I was busy tormenting writers in person yesterday.
And now I'm totally taken up with listening to birds and looking at the bluest sky I've seen in a long time. In other words, lazing about.

I MIGHT come home. Maybe.

"Blue skies smilin' at me. Nothin' but blue skies do I see. Bluebirds singin' a song. Nothin' but bluebirds all day long. Never saw the sun shinin' so bright..."

Have fun and get some small R&R that's not the revise and resubmit kind.

My favorite Vermont saying:

"What happens in VT stays in VT, although nothing ever happens here."

Hahahahaha, those VTers just crack me up.

I'm sure those in-person writers got everything they deserved! I hope the weather in VT is as beautiful as it is in central New York right now. Elka and I just got back from the park, which was very warm, but with the right amount of breeze and clouds.

There was also a very nice man there who admired Elka a great deal but took the time to warn me that Doberman brains grow bigger than their skulls and then the dogs will go crazy and not know you and it's a real problem with Dobermans but he loves them. I guess I'm lucky that it's really the first time in her life somebody took the time to explain this antiquated notion to me? I didn't argue, I just told him it wasn't going to be a problem.

You only think you love that city. Breathe deep. Smells...no, no! Not like cows. Geez. Smells fresh, right? That's the scent of mowed grass mowed, flowers, and sunshine. Cause sunshine does have a smell. I swear it.

I love that your listening to birds and looking at a blue sky. This is exactly why I will never, ever live in a city. Must have birds. Must smell grass, flowers, trees, and sunshine!

Enjoy it to your heart's content!

"mowed grass mowed." Ya know like, ride bike ride. Or, eat supper eat.

In my defense, I'm functioning on little sleep. We lost power yesterday around 5:30p.m. It didn't come back on until almost 1:00 a.m. They sent a text - est. power return at 8:15 p.m. Okay, that's not so bad. 8:16 p.m. another text. Est. power return 11:45 p.m. We ate dinner by candlelight - which was GREAT! But then...the temp in the house started creeping up, even though the sun had set. (Yesterday was one of the hottest days of the year - today is supposed to be hotter - heat indices to 105).

You get birdsong this time of year there? Here it's mostly finished by now, it's crows and magpies and the odd disinterred black bird chick chirping. Last year was an exception but that was mad, it was like waking up to the Albert Hall it was so loud.

Enjoy yourself.

'Lazing about' gets a bad rap, but it's well worth doing well. Enjoy!

Vermont's definitely the right place to enjoy some fresh air.

Sounds like exactly what you need. Enjoy!

As much as I love visiting NYC, I couldn't live there because, as Janet alluded to, you just don't see much sky.

Here's a Google search full of pictures that shows what I'd be missing.

Enjoy the big, beautiful sky, the sunshine, the fresh air, the stars. No matter how much you enjoy tormenting writers, sometimes you need a break.

I grew up in Vermont. I like stores and activity too much to ever move back, but you can't beat the clean air and water. Also, for the record, Vermonters do sneer at tourists. Ask any local about "Leaf Peepers," and you'll get an earful.

60% of the title is acronyms~
That being said, Vermont is especially nice in autumn.

Well, they have internet in Vermont. You might not have to come home.

Winter in Vermont is the best winter in the world. I think you should at least stay until you get a taste of winter there. The most quiet place (if you're out in the country). There's something magical about the snow in Vermont.

Think about it. Holed up in a house, writing, with snow all around you.

Heaven.

I can't believe I'm not up there, too. My parents live minutes from Burlington. I've always enjoyed that city (went to high school about 90 minutes south, just across the river).

Do you enjoy beer? VT is a hotspot for craft brewing right now. There's a good pizza/brew pub downtown, American Flatbread with Zero Gravity. And Lake Champlain has great swimming. And the Jazz festival (that's not until September, I think).

Anyway, glad to hear you're having fun! (And I second the remark that VT-ers sneer at tourists. Especially tourists without snow tires, or those that buy Carhart overalls and plaid flannel for the weekend).

I second all good Lake Champlain sentiments. I grew up across the lake on the rural NY side.

I believe Martha and Tilley have gone hunting for Janet. They're putting up missing posters now. I have it on good authority Scotch bottles will be appearing soon with the following message:

Have you seen this woman? Short, dark hair. Last seen wearing a blue tee-shirt with a grinning shark. Words "Every week is sharque week" over picture. Carrying a large satchel of books.

I'm sure she'll be found. In the meantime I hope she enjoys her commune with nature and cows. Reminder that cows enjoy music.
Sing to them.

When we lived in Ticonderoga, Lake Champlain was a favorite picnic/ice fishing spot. Good times!

Don't sweat it, Mighty QOTKU! The WiR, that is. And the weather, hopefully. Plenty of sweat pouring down here for everyone... :)

Donnaeve said...

You got that right Colin. All you gotta do is go outside, stand for a couple minutes. Sweat. Or as we Southern ladies are supposed to say. Perspire.

Can I say perspiring in buckets?

We always wish the bluest skies but we will let you enjoy the real thing. I do. To me scenery is more than the next building.

Stay until you are replenished and refreshed if you can but leave before you get bored. That way the idea of returning is inviting and there are lots of places in Vermont to see. The Green Mountains are wonderful with the first snowfall.

Enjoy! The weather, the tormenting of writers, the feeling of indulging yourself with no regrets.
You certainly deserve the break!

Sounds like heaven! It's beautiful here too, west of the Cascades. I renounced city life 27 years ago and still don't regret it. Yesterday Mr. Badger and I went to the city to see some art, and remember why we don't live there. Nice to have it close enough to visit once in a while.
we can probably survive ONE week *heavy sigh* without the WIR. *pouts*

hope you had fun torturing writers in person!

Sorry, I'm not hopping on this Enjoy Vermont bandwagon. It's about time to get back to New York where you're needed. If I have to text Janet Evanovich to send Stephanie Plum out hunting you down, that'll be my next move. I think she's driving for Uber now, so there's probably a few assignments ahead of you. Meaning you can relax ... for a couple more hours.

Unless you torment bounty hunters too.

Suddenly I have this vision of O'Henry's Ransom of Red Chief in my head. Stephanie Plum would report back that she left you in Vermont because she couldn't take the punishment any longer.

I can just imagine how a happy shark looks after torturing writers.

Enjoy your weekend, Miss Janet. I am off to consult google maps to find out where Vermont is (sounds like a lovely place).

Totally off topic, but this interview might be of interest. Diana Gabaldon is discussing kernel writing on Books and Writers and mentioned this interview. It's an interesting commentary on writing. On the Author's Road with Diana Gabaldon. These people interviewed fifty different authors on an interesting road trip.

My daughter and her husband, and their dog, left Boston this morning for a week of camping and hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. No internet, no phone service, no electricity. Sounds like either a great getaway or the start of a horror novel.

I warned them to stay away from BEARS. Didn't realize I should also caution them about sharks in the area. See? You're tormenting writers -- well, one writer -- without even trying.

Vermont, like Maine is a nice place to be from.

Does shark-bait taste better in person?

I hope you enjoyed yourself and didn't get cornered by people who don't know how to pitch! (and the AC was strong enough).
