While I am off praying for world peace, and awaiting the Resurrection, I hope all my very treasured blog readers will use these few days to post a link to their blog or website so you can all get to know each other.
The links are in the comments section of Thursday's blog post here.
Have a very happy start to April, and the new spring season!

It's hard to have a happy April when it's minus 9 and there's still a couple feet of snow.
I've been watching HGTV non-stop, Beachfront Bargains to be exact, while I wait for the Resurrection, and I've decided I'm moving to North Carolina. Soon as I get my book deal.
ohno, Amanda! Here's hoping sunshine makes it your way to warm it up. It's cold (best make that chilly compared with your temps) here too but no snow and at least the sky is bright with the sun.
Lately Georgia's been on my mind. Same reason.
Come on Amanda! It was in the eighties yesterday. (not that I mean to rub it in...)
Today is a little different but in a few hours it will still be nice. A bit of a "cold" front coming through which means later on it will in the mid sixties and sunny. That's the kind of cold front I can handle.
Okay - as to how the blog hop is going, I'm finding myself frustrated at not being able to post comments (still) on certain sites. The reCAPTCHA just won't behave on various ones and let me verify I'm not a robot.
Sites I've been to this a.m. and unable to comment:
Hank's (frenchsojourn - tried again)
Lilly Faye Poodle
Nyxie Lin
Adib
If I can't at least hit a like button, or leave a comment b/c of this strange credentials issue...just know I tried.
Janet, your generousity is mind blowing. The blog-hopping is great fun. Thank you again for the space you've given us.
Amanda sounds like my wife when she looked out the window of our Oregon home, at the freezing rain coming down in a 20 mph wind, and asked, "Why do we live here?" Within an hour she'd located St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands on the map and said, "We're moving here." It took a year to make the move, but we spent four great years there before coming back to the states. I watch the Weather Channel and, seriously, I can't understand why people who don't HAVE to choose to live in places where they use the word blizzard anyplace besides the Dairy Queen.
Yes, we've had some nice weather here in NC. Over on the east side of the State we're in the mid-60s at the moment, and there's rain forecast, but all in all, I can't complain. Besides, I'd feel guilty complaining knowing some of you are in the deep chills. Brrr!
Here in CT the weather is sunny outside and 68 degrees INSIDE because that's where I am, working.
I wouldn't care if it was zero and windy, I would rather be HOME.
The LA QuakeBot twitter feed [covers earthquakes for all of SoCal] has been extremely active these past 24 hours, with most of the quakes located in the exact same place. If you read about "the big one" in the near future, remember you heard about it here on a NYC-based blog first.
Funny...I had to take a minute and remember whose site this is. I'm starting to think of it as a coffee house where I meet up with writing buddies. Janet who?
Thanks for all the weather condolences, and suggestions for relocation. Georgia sounds good, but the Virgin Islands? Wow. That would be a climate shock. Kudos, John, for being adventuresome.
Jed Cullen said on his blog: "The world's most popular Easter Egg is the Cadbury's Crème Egg. Or, as it's called in Canada, the Oeuf-Fondant." I used to be addicted to those eggs, and that blasted bunny didn't help.
Kitty: I don't know if it's true where you are, but it seems Cadbury Creme Eggs are seasonal here in the US (at least here in E. NC). I seem to recall being able to get them year-round in the UK.
Yep. You can get them year-round in Canada, too. Also, the Cadbury Mini-eggs are available year-round. We know our candies. :)
But don't look for the Kinder Surprise eggs in the US at any time of year. They're available year-round here, too, but they're banned in the US because they're considered a choking hazard. Because there are small toys in the hollow eggs. And don't try to bring them into the US from Canada - some Americans came up here a couple years ago, thought the eggs were cool, so bought a bunch to take home. They were fined thousands of dollars at the border.
bj: Yes! Kinder surprise! I used to loved those--not so much the eggs but the "surprise" inside! So they're a choking hazard in the US, but not in the UK. Do British kids not put things in their mouths..? One aspect of our differing retail standards that never ceases to baffle me... :)
I know! The packaging says it contains small objects, and it's not for children under 3 years of age. That's enough for Canadian authorities. But to out-and-out ban them, so much so that bringing them into the country carries a huge fine... I don't understand it.
For those wondering what we're talking about, this Wikipedia article not only explains but also discusses the American law regarding it:
Kinder Surprise on Wikipedia
It even mentions the case I talked about in my previous post.
The toys inside are like small Ikea toys - you put them together yourself.
Oh wow. Did you know that last year there was a Kinder Egg smuggling ring discovered?
<a href="http://www.cbc.ca/radio/thisisthat/best-of-this-is-that-parks-canada-wildlife-fee-no-ball-soccer-unpaid-intern-male-doula-1.2843299/canadian-kinder-surprise-smuggling-ring-broken-up-by-us-officials-1.2843300>Canadian Kinder Surprise smuggling ring broken up by US officials</a>
The best part is this witness's account: "I thought maybe it was drugs but when I opened it up it was a little plastic fox dressed like a queen. I called the police right away."
Okay. I'm trying to delete the previous message because I forgot the ending quotes in the URL, but for some reason I can't figure out how to delete.
Is there a secret to it? Or am I just blind?
bj: You should be able to see a little trash can next to the date under your comment. Hit that and you'll get the option to delete. Just copy your post, delete, paste into a new comment, and fix the link.
I've had to do that a few times myself over the past couple of days. :)
It's not there. It's as though someone else posted it, because there is no trashcan. And I'm sure I've seen it other times.
Is this the opposite of the 'bad blogger' problems people have been having? Others can't post, while I can't remove a post? I know that OpenID doesn't want to work half the time. I have to publish twice, just about every time.
In any case, folks, you're perfectly welcome to ignore that post about the Kinder Egg smuggling ring. Sorry about that.
The OpenID is the issue for me, I think, BJ. Those sites I'm trying to drop a comment in want me to choose which OpenID I want (Wordpress) which is really odd b/c this is the same way I sign on to blab my mouth here - but on some sites - no go. I choose Wordpress, put in donnaeverhart, and hit publish, then I wait for the little reCAPTCHA thingy so I can verify I'm not a robot and that's where it fails. It blinks up and then disappears.
I've never heard of Kinder Eggs! Figures we'd ban them here. Based on some things kids aren't allowed to do nowadays for "SAFETY" reasons, by all accounts I ought to be dead.
It looks like Kinder Eggs are banned under a US law from the 1930s not allowing small objects in chocolate. In a Kinder Egg, the 'small objects' are in a larger object (a plastic egg inside the chocolate egg), but still no go.
Yeah, I read the Wikipedia article. When I'm curious about something, I get answers. :)
As I understand it, the fine can go as high as $2500 per egg.
REJourney - your is a site I couldn't leave a comment. Here's what I wanted to post:
Loved every single picture! The one of the baby dolphin was so heartbreaking, and I hope it's "family" was out there waiting. All of them gave me a good feeling though. Thanks for sharing!
Had no idea the Kinder eggs were illegal in the States. They have them for sale at the checkout here in New Zealand. *mental note not to accidentally smuggle eggs next time I go to the States*.
Like Donna, I think of the things my brother and I used to do when we were kids that would be considered unsafe, or reckless parenting, or child endangerment. I was regularly taking the bus into town on my own when I was 10, 11, 12 years old. Playing around creeks, riding my bike in the streets (without pads or helmet), playing with Kinder Surprise eggs... :)
OK, guys. I have so far visited two blogs. TWO. It took me HOURS because I got all sucked in to reading past blog posts. Holy guacamole.
THIS is why I'm a lurker, why I read blogs in a RSS feed and stay out of blog comment sections. I'd forgotten, since the demise of Murderati, how time intensive it is. And how easily distracted I am.
Whose idea was this? Was it Colin? I'm coming to understand why you've been banished.
I did not need to get involved with another community of smart, funny, interesting writer-people. Really. Did not.
*sigh*
I'll try to keep up with comments over here for a while, see how it goes. But I am not going to visit any more blogs. Really. Not going to. I need to write.
Maybe just one more. Or two.
Australia has Cadbury creme eggs and Kinder Surprise available all year.
But we also had Yowies. The Yowie (aka bunyip) is a mythical (or not!) beast from the Aussie bush. Like Kinder Surprise they had little animal toys inside that you had to build.
They started making them again last year, according to the wiki site I linked above, and are shipping them to the US.
I'm all for the bike helmets and pads (having had enough falls on a bike that I wish I had them as a child).
Other things, though, I think are going a little too far. Remember lawn darts? Those were one of our regular outdoor games. For those of us who didn't have a horseshoe pitch in our back yard, anyway.
A quick call from Hawaii. Even the Cadbury eggs we are still able to buy in the states aren't real. Cadbury sold the rights to Hershey a long time gone. Hershey recently sued the little English stores for importing the real thing. Gotta love lawyers.
Plane broke in that ugly place called Hawaii. Got to surf, hard to do on the west coast of Florida. Have to wait for cold fronts to give us waves. Also did a standup paddle board trip up a river with an old friend. It is a shame that all of Carkoon's waters are underground. I'll fix that someday.
Happy Easter Y'all.
Every time I get to the end of the list of blogs another few pop up! (It's obviously a conspiracy)
And, like kdjames, I find it hard to move along, move along. Thus have I spent hours on all of your blogs/websites/wotevs. I'm not complaining, mind. I've followed the ones I really liked via Wordpress where I could and via favourites when I couldn't.
So I guess the real problem is that I now have a superabundance of blogs that I'm following.
Again, no compalaints. But if I get piles from all this sitting and reading, I'm blaming all of you.
Hi Colin
I know you’ve been doing yeoman’s work in these threads, and we all appreciate it, greatly. I’ve tried to visit every link you’ve posted to cmw.html (except facebook and twitter links) and discovered three that can’t resolve due to typos in their URLs:
http://www.thegirdleofmelianblogspot.com/ needs a period before blogspot:
http://www.thegirdleofmelian.blogspot.com/
These two have your url in front of them:
http://www.colindsmith.com/jessicavaskobooks.blogspot.com
http://www.colindsmith.com/violetingram.blogspot.com
Also, Gerald Porter:
This site doesn’t seem to exist according to my browser:
http://www.muchadosite.net
I also tried:
http://www.muchadosite.com
http://www.muchadosite.org
And none of them resolve. Maybe someone else can verify if they can access the site?
Stephen
It's a beautiful day in Kentucky. I hope to blog hop this week. Isn't it great that Janet offered that opportunity? Some of you mentioned how time consuming it is. I limit it to current post and about sections on my first visit or I'd never get past one blog. It's so fun to look through the windows and see personality!
I'm thinkin' Mayan Riviera and margaritas, oh yeah!
