I never realized the Iwo Jima memorial is really a memorial to all fallen Marines from the Revolutionary War forward.
I never realized how BIG this memorial was till I stood next to it tonight.
I never realized how many wars we fought till I saw the list circle the base of the memorial, and start over again on the next side.
And when someone-who-shall-remain nameless asked her dad "Didn't you used to be a Marine?" he replied "Once a Marine, always a Marine, kid."
Hua, Pop. And thanks.

God bless 'em all :)
My first husband was a marine who fought in Vietnam. He'll always be a hero to me.
It's a common mistake for people to talk about someone being an "ex-Marine." According to my (retired) Marine friends, the only ex-Marine was Lee Harvey Oswald.
I had a boss who was a marine and though fifteen years had passed since he'd been active, he still talked about it and called himself a Jarhead quite willingly.
I feel like I can never say thank you enough...to all servicemen and women.
I stood beside a war memorial in Perth, WA, this week. I'm always affected by the names of the fallen. "Lest we forget."
I had someone ask me, how many wars had Australians served in? All of them. :(
Love that. Ooh rah!
