I clicked on the link from Twitter about this blog post because it mentioned my treasured colleague Joanna Volpe.
Then I got to this line: When you’re that young, you don’t realize how beautiful (and fleeting) it is to love things unapologetically.
Then I realized this author is amazing, and I ordered the book.
Yes I could have probably snagged a copy from his publisher, or his agent but yanno, I really REALLY want to show (not just tell!) this author that he is AMAZING!

PS: I can't wait to hear what you think of THE END GAMES :]
What a truly beautiful line. And spot on.
Thanks for the link! Like I said on his blog, there is something very nice about finding someone who expresses eloquently the childhood loves and current trials of our generation, and is able to offer the hope of a dream fulfilled at the end.
The quote you singled out reminds me of another one from another YA author,John Green, though it is more specifically related to nerds:
"When people call people nerds, mostly what they're saying is, 'You like stuff.' Which is not a good insult at all. Like, 'You are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness.'"
They're both beautiful and make me think maybe I should give YA more of a shot.
Kristin, some of the very finest writers around are working in the YA field.
I first noticed this at the National Book Awards reading some years back. The adult fiction was boring and pretentious. The YA category was sizzling.
I became a devotee that very day.
My husband and I have this conversation every time right before we go into a book store:
Me: "Now, we can't buy any more books until we read most of the ones we already have." (There's a couple hundred unread)
Husband: "What are you talking about? There's no such thing as too many books! Ooh! I've been looking for this book for awhile now..."
Me: "Well, it is on the reduced rack so, maybe we should get it."
