Writing is a solitary pursuit; publishing is not

This is a picture of the post-launch reading for FALSE MEMORY by Dan Krokos.

Among those pictured:

Jeff Somers who wrote THE ELECTRIC CHURCH that Dan read and loved long before he was a published author; and where Dan found the name of Jeff's agent.

Janet Reid (obscured) the QueryShark who found Dan's entry, posted it as "yup, that's how it's done" read his manuscript and called him on a Sunday night to sign it up straight away.

Joanna Volpe: who was one of several early readers of the YA novel that sold as FALSE MEMORY and one of the key readers who helped Dan get in touch with his inner 16 year old first person girl POV.

Suzie Townsend: who sold Dan's YA and middle-grade novels

Whitney Ross; the editor who bought Dan's middle-grade novel PLANET THIEVES.

Sean Ferrell: who along with Jeff Somers was one of the first writers Dan knew and guided his path. In other words, they showed him the best bars in NYC.

Brooks Sherman who showed Dan the bars Jeff and Sean hadn't discovered yet.

Beth Miller, Joe Volpe, Diana Fox, Sara LaPolla--all lit agents from other agencies who rallied round as fans.

Sara Seargent-an editor (but not Dan's) who also rallied as a fan.

This is just a few of the people who make up a publishing team: agent, editor, fans, colleagues.

And that's where you come in.  No team is complete without readers! Join us!

That's awesome! Dan's a lucky guy and I wish him lots of sales! I'll be buying soon. I have 4 books to read and then I can order. No photos of the shark online? I found one :) In my agent dreams you look like Sandra Bullock. It helped me cope with the form rejection ;)

Ah...who took the picture?

One of the group?

If not, the staff deserves a gratuity-boost for waiting on such a bunch of writing yahoos. I would have said writing who’s-who’s but my fingers slipped. They do that when the keys are smeared with green.

Having read the book you signed him on, I can say even without having yet read False Memory that it's going to be an excellent story. It's going to be my next purchase.

Wry, most likely one of the many surveillance teams that follow these guys around.

Whoa. That looks like the funnest party that has ever existed in all of space and time. The sort of party that makes one look up at the ceiling tiles and assume one has died in a freak zamboni accident and is in either heaven or possibly purgatory.

Congrats to you all!

Follow-up: I went in to my local (and exceedingly cool) book store to buy FALSE MEMORY. They didn't have it, but while ordering it for me, the owner said, "Hmm, this looks interesting. I'll have to order some for the store." Yup. You owe me one, Dan. ;-)

By saying your picture was obscured, you prodded the hamster in my brain to race. OK, deduct who isn't Janet. She's not that one, no that's Suzie, can't be that one, must be the... Silly hamster, pics are for skids. Mine slid right off the wheel.
