Tracey Townsend is a smart woman

not just cause she chose to be born as Suzy Townsend's younger sister (although that was a brilliant move) but for what she says in this blog post about quitting her job and going to New Zealand for a year.

Going to New Zealand for any reason is a smart idea. Insanely beautiful country (w/ some insanely fun people - Queenstown - the capital of insane fun)

Traveling is wonderful but living in a foreign country is like no other experience. I lived in South Africa for a year back during apartheid. It was a frightening place to be, (I hear it still is), but one of the most beautiful places on earth. The people were and are amazing.

It was in that nation, half a world away from mine, where I learned what it was like to love my own country. I cried when I left South Africa, (I left a special love behind), but I balled when I stepped foot on American soil again. There are few experiences as great as returning home to freedom.

Tracey is one brave woman. She is a citizen of the world. Until your feet touch American soil, God Bless and enjoy. You are one lucky lady.

What is it with these Townsend women? They have no fear of letting go of what isn't working and trying something completely new. Wow.

I tried to move to England once in my twenties. I was home in two weeks. Scared the crap out of me.

What a brave girl! I would never have had the guts to do something like that. I rarely leave my own state, let alone leave the country!

I hope she's planning to write a book about her experience.

Nice post, and NZ is my homeland. I'm visiting family in September. I went NY State last October and this year and it terrified me. I'd not travelled as an adult, other than from NZ to Australia, and I wondered how I'd cope. I found Americans to be polite and generous people. I expected to see stereo types, and there were a few occasions, but I was surprised how alike we were. I enjoyed new foods and conversations. There's a refreshing feeling of faith that is evident during my work. I also had experiences with military and indigenous spirits that surprised me. You're a warring nation, patriotic, but there's so much pain in your energy fields. I imagine State to State there'd be differences, but I was also surprised by how conservative I found everyone to be. Some things I said shocked some people. I loved the experience. Thank you NYer's. Food and weather, extreme!

NZ is a beautiful country, and is made even better by all the great people who come to visit and/or live here.

Wow, I'm so honored that you re-posted me, Janet! Living in New Zealand has not been easy for me, but it was a decision that I am so happy I made. If any readers are tempted to quit their own jobs and travel to a new country, I highly recommend it; you simply cannot learn this much about the world and yourself in your own home. Thank you all so much for your kind words and support!
