As with all Scudder novels, it's not fast-paced, action-packed thrill a minute. It's more suspense than thriller, and that's just fine by me. And there's always an interesting twist on the rules of genre in a Scudder novel. One of the things I like best about the pacing; you know something's coming but you don't want to race ahead to see what it is.
Martin Cruz Smith said Lawrence Block is "One of the surest, most distinctive voices in American fiction" and he's spot on.
The book goes on sale May 11, 2011.

This sounds like one I'd enjoy, too. Thanks for posting about it.

Great news!
Lawrence Block is one of my favorite authors---he gave a great talk at our library a few years ago. He's a nice, hardworking man who politely refused to let our resident political nutjob hijack his question and answer session. I was impressed.
He told a story about touring for a Scudder novel: two ladies approached him and told him that they liked Matt . . . but they wanted to marry Bernie. He said they seemed afraid of hurting Scudder's feelings.
That's high praise.
Ya know . . . that'd make a dandy contest prize . . . Just saying . . .
Love the series and will be waiting for the newest chapter!
Love the cover!
Yay! Lawrence Block is one of my personal heroes. May his words live forever.
I'm so delighted!
