For a taste of how amazing Sean Ferrell's writing is, take a look at his short story Building An Elephant on the Adirondack Review site.
This story won the Fulton Prize for short fiction in 2007, and we were darn pleased to co-host a reading for Sean and the other finalists at the General Society Library.
And don't I look all clever and such with that line "you'll be hearing more about him!"
Ya baby indeed!!!

oh oh creepy little story. But very very good.
I read an editor note the other day on one of the qualities of good writing.
He advocated using words with laser precision. "Spare and precise" was his mantra. That's what Ferrell's story was.
And it was very good.
Loved it. The line when the water buffalo is first introduced made me laugh out loud.
I agree, this is a weird but really good story.
D*mn. One of those stories that make me almost hate the author because I'm not him, and his story isn't mine. (This is a GOOD thing.)
Thanks for giving us the link!
I like it! I like it! But . . .
eighteen-wheeler is hyphenated. :)
I'm with JES. Excellent writing!
Well, that makes me feel better. The neighbors all think I am weird for having a rhinoceros in the yard. I tell them I am much better guarded than they with their little pit bulls, mean and feral though those animals may be. A pit bull can be bought off. Burglars and vandals will throw meat to a pit bull to get it to look the other way.
NOBODY messes with my rhinoceros.
Many thanks for the nice comments. Greatly appreciated.

VERY VERY VERY good. Man, this inspires the hell out of me.
Great story. Like JES, I am jealous--in a good way.
Does Numb include the same mix of realism and, uh, unrealism?
Please pardon my language.
But Fucking Mother Of God WOW!
Wow. Really bizarre and slightly disturbing, but wow. It was like "Tooltime with Tim-The-Toolman-Taylor" trying to outdo the Christmas lights...mixed with "Jumanji".
Very cool!
