Clutching my passport...

I'm off to the Surrey Writing Conference.
Brave souls, they, inviting me to carry on at length about how to get an agent's attention (two words: whisky, chocolate).

Eric Stone will be in Denver tonight (Wednesday) and Mission, Kansas on Friday so if you're in the area, stop by and see his really interesting slide show on Cambodia. I guess you could buy a book too if you wanted.

I'll be back next week but not for long. The following weekend is the SEAK writing conference on Cape Cod.

Civilization will just have to carry on without me for awhile!

PS No comments while I'm gone, sorry.

Please be careful on the Cape and be sure to take a well charged cell phone and your pepper spray.

It's seemier than people think. People sometimes park in crosswalks there. There are potholes.

Well until Ponytail Pete took the reigns, I had a mental image of a dusty, locked, backoffice room at Imprint where no human had entered in the last ten years. Green police seal sticker still unbroken.

Every so often the interns would trick the new intern into pushing some query envelopes under the door.

Once every so many Halloweens an author would walk through the glass doors and say, "Is Janet in? I just flew in from Dubuke and I wanted to take my agent out to lunch!"

The place goes so quiet that you can hear the follicle dislodge from Gary's forehead.

"Janet? Janet Reid? Why no has seen Janet since... the accident."

Wow, you're coming to Surrey just in time. We're expecting a HUGE storm tomorrow morning on Vancouver Island which will in turn move its way inland.

Assuming I can get a ferry, I'll get to see you this weekend too. I have chocolate, but I also have an agent, so I get to eat it all myself.

Have a good flight!
