The cost of war is not money.

Oh, my God.
My best friend from high school works at Walter Reed hospital in D.C. It's where wounded soldiers go after being worked on in Germany.
She does the cognitive testing on soldiers who have suffered brain trauma.
Number one: There was a day last year when President Bush came to visit for a photo op. He didn't go to her floor.
Number two: Soldiers who are amputees are being allowed to go back into Iraq. WTF?
Number three: The public has no idea the severity of the injuries being sustained by our soldiers.
Number four: President Bush planned going into Iraq even before September 11. He's on tape joking about going into Iran also (years ago).
Number five: For God's sake, anyone who knows anything about foreign policy knew that Al-Qaeda was in Afghanistan and not in Irag. That Al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein were in fact enemies and not collaborators.

The most likely outcome at this point is the division of Iraq into 3 countries. The buffer between Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia no longer exists. So the Shia section of Iraq will be one country. The Sunnis will get their own territory. The Kurds will also have their own territory in the north. And I think, if I remember correctly, that most of the oil is in the north? I need to verify that. So guess which country we'll be aligning with.

I keep going back to this picture and just staring at it. It's heart-breaking.

This brave soldier's marriage looks like this because countless Americans thought gay marriage was a more important issue than war. God bless him. God bless that startled bride. Did you hear the army is offering $20,000 signing bonuses as if dying and being maimed in Iraq is like joining Merrill Lynch? And the bonuses are expected to rise. My blood pressure is rising. Must stop. This photo should be on every voting booth in America come 11/08.

That's not what a wedding portrait is supposed to be like. Can you imagine having to start out your marriage this way? I hope they find more happiness in their lives together than they will ever know what to do with. They're two very brave people (love her dress, btw).

This is a heartbreaking photo, yet the phrase "the cost of war is not money" is misleading. It implies that financial costs do not cost lives or injury. They do. Every time you take money from a family you increase the chance of death or injury to that family. For example, the occupation of Iraq is so expensive that for every American death or injury in Iraq, a hundred times as many are at home.

Anti-wife, I missed it (I don't watch TV). Can you give us some highlights? Did they say anything about this portrait? How are they doing now?
