I earned my living as a firefighter/medic... (the first female to make it through our city academy, and then pass the rigorous state exam). The only time I was truly scared was a large warehouse fire. But you do your job. So often I think, what must it have been like to run into the towers and climb those steps. Utter bravery. Gut wrenching losses.
There was a free concert in Golden Gate Park today which included a lovely and moving musical tribute to the victims of 9/11. Twenty-one years gone but never, ever forgotten.

I am in awe of you, Melanie and every other fire fighter, because I cannot even fathom running into that kind of danger.
And just like every September 11 since then, I go to the memorial site. As a survivor of that morning, it's always a part of me now
