yesterday wasn't good for thinking let alone writing.
I cleaned.
Sort of.
I refreshed the NYT and the WaPo websites fiendishly,
and then I pottered around getting the book prizes ready to mail,
and then I did the puzzle,
then I ordered new bakeware for my new oven,
then I realized the Crisco expired in 2018, so no baking,
and then I didn't do much but stare into space.
All of which means I didn't write a damn thing for today.
Other than this.
Well, you found a nifty Wile Coyote jpeg, which eerily resembles my hunt yesterday for a fridge part needed by a 20+ year old fridge.
ReplyDeleteWork. Passed out. That was all she wrote yesterday so to speak. Similar day planned for today.
ReplyDeleteLast weekend I made waffles for the family and they didn't pop out of the griddle like usual. I checked the Pam and it expired 6 years ago. 6 years ago! That's bad, even for me.
ReplyDeleteE.M., right there with you.
Also, we still ate the waffles.
We got outside. We read Mama Panya's Pancakes on repeat. (Lovely picture book.) We searched for a camper, a good distraction. We waited. We wait.
ReplyDeleteHoping fresh supplies appear and you're able to bake today, Janet. Fun fact: the name Crisco originally stood for "crystalized cottonseed oil." (I only know that because my mom wrote a book on the history of the cottonseed oil industry!)
ReplyDeleteSomeone recently pointed me in the direction of a humor piece by Ian Frazier titled 'Wile E. Coyote v. Acme Company.' If you're in need of some stress-relieving laughter, I highly recommend it.
Today the weather is warm but a bit gloomy. No apocalyptic fronts blowing down from Canada or rising from the tropics. I have plenty of TP and PT. My freezer and cupboards are full, my spices up to date. Kit Kats abound. I must venture out because I'm short a loaf of Wonder and a 12 pack of Poland Spring. Yes, bread and water. Prison food. As sweet as life is it still feels like I'm being Shaw Shanked.
ReplyDeleteWorked. Looked after the small people well enough to keep me out of jail. Peeked from between my finders at social media. Shiny New Project drummed its fingers and sighed deeply. Told it, "Not now, SNP. Not now."
ReplyDeleteI expect today to be a repeat of the same. Sorry, SNP.
Expiration dates are just a friendly suggestion, according to my chemist husband, who is the semi-final arbiter of the "Is it safe to ingest?" game in our household. I get veto power for pantry items, but he gets the final say for pharmaceuticals. I will admit to using Crisco past its expiry date, as long as it isn't discolored and passes the sniff test with flying colors. There's no such thing as a little bit rancid.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of my favorite Ian Frazier pieces, Claire Bobrow, and thanks for making me LOL, Carolynnwith2Ns. Kit Kats abound at our house, too, though they're getting less abundant by the hour.
2018? I would have used that Crisco!
ReplyDeleteGood to see old Wile E. up to his tricks.
Kept busy yesterday working on ch. 9 and celebrating a big birthday with my husband. The weather was just beautiful, too.
C. Dan Castro next time, RepairClinic.com. They have everything. Fortunately, we're close enough to pick up from them, but they ship pretty much anywhere and they're just a downright good company.
ReplyDeleteYesterday...
Four loads of laundry
Dusted
Vacuumed the rugs
Swiffered the floors
Cleaned up the kitchen
Collapsed after dinner
11:45pm, reflux attack so bad I was sitting in the bathroom with the waste basket in front of me. Hubs thought I was going to die. Wasn't a bad idea at the time. Shook him so bad though, he stayed home from work today to keep an eye on me.
Today, cleaned the bathrooms and called the vet because I think Loaner Cat has pancreatitis again. They can't see me until Monday. Monday! I think an ER visit will happen by tomorrow morning...
Started lofting up some plans and found out my pencil had a mind of its own.
ReplyDeleteWrote a few hundred words, ended up writing myself into a corner.
Made an Angel Food cake to settle my mind, the pencil still had a mind of its own.
If you are going to replace the Crisco, consider the health food store shortening. It is made of palm oil and isn't hydrogenated. Palm oil is hard on Myanmar but better for your body.
I definitely had several of those days this week, Janet. I am calmer now (on Thursday) but there is still the undercurrent of anxiety running.
ReplyDeleteOn Tuesday I made an apple cake, with some apples that were beginning to be a bit squishy, but still viable mostly. On things like meat and dairy, I tend to abide by expiration date. Other things, not so much as long as they pass the sniff test. And whoever said, "there is no such thing as a little bit rancid" is correct. BTW, did you know the oils in coffee can go rancid? I always wipe out my coffee jar between re-fillings with beans from the freezer. I got my training at the Evil Coffee Empire Originating in Seattle, before it became evil, so I know these things.
Claire, I read that Ian Frazier piece about Wiley Coyote and Acme. It was hilarious (I remember that much, even if I can't remember anything else about it. I think the last 4 years have killed my brain.)
Here's to better times, if that's even possible any more.
I feel so seen.
ReplyDeleteHey, at least you wrote *something.* I can't even seem to read. Went through an entire chapter last night and realized I had no idea what happened, had to re-read.
I have a tough time waiting patiently for anything. Even toast. Waiting for something of this magnitude is excruciating. Maybe it'd help if you pretend it's a book out on submission. At least you're familiar with that kind of patience.
Hang in there, everyone.
I'm not sure what Crisco is...an oil? We use olive oil and coconut oil for all oil needs and butter (from a cow) for everything else. Use by dates don't seem to matter with those things.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was The Hub's birthday and he took some time off work and we went to lunch sans Barbarians. It was lovely. I mean, we spent most of the lunch talking about the Barbarians, but it was lovely all the same :)
Thanks Nightsmusic!
