Respite

I knew I was going to take a break this coming week even before the election was called on Saturday. My nerves are just jangled. My concentration is down to a few minutes sometimes, not even a half-hour.

I'm going dark here, and staying off Twitter for the week.

Time to read, and just be quiet. I can't get to Montana or Oregon to sit in solitude, but I can turn everything off here in Brooklyn, and pretend.

Usually I've posted pet pictures on a hiatus, and checked the comment column, but this time I'm really going to take a break.

I'll be back at the end of the week.

Big Sky country; very very quiet!

  2. My #1 son is moving from Seattle to Montana over Thanksgiving weekend. So if you plan to visit Montana after that, he can give you ideas on exactly where to go to meet your solitude requirements.

    Enjoy your week.

  3. Even here in Canada our nerves have been jangled by the drama of election week in the United States, and now that it's over exhaustion sets in. Get a really good rest from everything this week, Janet, and come back refreshed and relaxed.

  4. I hear you. I sang at Mass, I'm going to work, and when I get home I'm writing.

    Also praying.

    A lot.

    For everyone.

    Dona nobis pacem.

  5. I remember watching a movie by Akiro Kurosawa, and that scamp Tishiro was in it. There was a line that said something to the effect of... "the space between the notes are as important as the notes themselves." It's something fun to think about... the spacing of silence, and it's importance to the noise that follows.

We will miss you, but we will appreciate the silence before your next note.

    Cheers!

  7. Rest. Recuperate. Don't paint anything. Just rest.

  12. Rest well, Janet.

I may do something similar. It wasn't until this weekend that I realized what an exhausting heavy toll has been taken in this election cycle-- hell, in these past four years. On many fronts, for me, not just the political.

  13. Hope you enjoy a well-earned rest, Janet. One of my favorite old parishioners always encouraged us to keep a personal Sabbath with these wise words: "It's like the Master of the universe is saying, 'Go on and take a break -- I'll cover for ya!' "

  17. All good thoughts for a relaxing break. Almost the only good thing about this brutal year is that it will be over soon. (And the world, as one, will shout GOOD RIDDANCE, 2020!)

  18. I will echo the others in saying I hope your break gives you the peace and solitude it should. I hope that is true for everyone here.

This week at the littles' elementary school, the theme is "Dude, Be Kind" Week. I think I'm just gonna start saying that all the time.

  19. I'm taking extra long walks in the woods here at the sanctuary. Yes, rest...

  20. Sometimes you just need to go off the grid to rebalance.

If you can't go on a hike, watch a virtual one on the 4K Relaxation Channel or LoungeV Films on You Tube. You can climb mountains, walk Hawaiian beaches, take a 9 hr train ride that goes into the arctic circle, or hike the Redwood forest. It's like a mini vacation. Or just listen to the ocean. It's wonderful.
