Hiatus Day 2

Quite a few reiders saw a photo of the iconic Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge (https://www.fws.gov/refuge/three_arch_rocks/) and thought of the Goonies. Which isn't a bad guess, as they're about an hour's drive from each other. Here are photos of the actual "Goonies" rock, aka Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

Waylon enjoyed his beach walk, and enjoyed shouting "Hey You Guys!" a few times. Or maybe he was just barking at seagulls.

  1. Since I made a fool of myself yesterday, I'll just say...beautiful.

  2. Hahaha NIGHTMUSIC. Today is easy because QOTKU does not have four legs.

Both of my kids are in their thirties and to this day GOONIES is their favorite movie.

  3. I do love a good rock! (anybody familiar with the picture book "Everybody Needs a Rock"?)

Ulrike has not yet been to the beach (I know, I know) but I can only assume that gull-barking will be one of her favorite pastimes, based on her squirrel-barking in the backyard. Though maybe she won't? On leash, we've been working on ignoring squirrels ("Look at that" is an invaluable dog training game) and she doesn't bark at them on the park, even on a long leash.

  6. Nightsmusic: no harm, no foul! Or is it - no harm, no fool? Either way, you rock (ar, ar) and we love you.

Waylon! You are a good boy and deserve many days at the beach with your snazzy red leash. It's fun to see the iconic rock from 'The Goonies' behind you.

  8. If you go a couple of miles south of Cannon Beach OR you’ll find a wayside called “ Hug Point”. Go at low tide.
The is a water fall, more rocks and shallow caves. And there is a barnacle covered abandoned part of the old hwy 1. Follow it at low tide and there is a hidden beach. Much more goonie-ish than cannon beach. Just don’t go as the tide comes in ... pacific waves are sneaky and you might spend 12 +/- hours waiting for the tide to change.
I grew up in the Pacific NorthWet and we all have our favorite places. Hug Point is mine.
Did I say ‘they’ saw flying saucers there once!?!

  10. If you need more Waylon in your life, he has his own Instagram account at @waylon.the.wanderer. His most recent photos include pictures with Santa.

Kate, I like Hug Point, too. It's a pretty spot.

  11. Lovely pictures. It's always good to see good photos, cause I love photography. And maybe it's the only creative thing I'm actually good at - I'm having a "I might just stop writing"-moment today.

Looking forward to the next photos tomorrow.
