Who the heck made THIS list?

best sidekicks in FlavorWire.
Oh please.

As IF!

They missed some of the best. (Joe Pike, sidekick to Elvis Cole for starters; Dox, sidekick to John Rain, too.)

Who do you think they missed?

Nero Wolfe never even left the house (except that one time). So, without Archie Goodwin he wouldn't have been much or a famous detective.

Also, Trixie Belden needed her Honey. A girls gotta have a BFF.

Also, Hercule Poirot needed his Hastings. The man was smart but he had serious issues. Possibly OCD.

I think they need to get out more. Sancho, Tom and watson I agree with. But you're right, where is Joe Pike, and how about Robert Parker's Spencer sidekick - Hawk? Coban's Bolitar and Wynn Lockwood III? How about Tonto? The Lone Ranger would have been screwed without him. Then there is Festus and Fester ( Gunsmoke and Adams Family) If they can use Shakespere Play characters, TV characters are included... Ok, maybe not.

Love your blog!

Igor, sidekick to Frankenstein. How could they?

Duh! How about Spenser's sidekick, Hawk?? Tough. Dependable. Hilarious.

Heck, they missed 'em all! Joe Pike (Elvis Cole), Hawk (Spenser), Meyer (Travis McGee), Meyer Meyer (you could argue he's Steve Carella's sidekick in the 87th Precinct). For non-crime, how about Woodrow Call from Lonesome Dove?

Oh, they also missed Randall Swale, sidekick to Conway Sax. But they'll learn about him soon enough.

Jean Passepartout, sidekick and valet of Phileas Fogg in Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days.

Corporal Nobby Nobbs, sidekick (emphasis on kick) to the Ahnk-Morpork City Watch in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.

Likewise, Sergeant Detritus the troll, who is not kickable, but is nonetheless the person you want guarding your back.

Well, it may not be great literature but I love Peabody - sidekick to JD Robb's Dallas.

The little gray cells tell me they have forgotten the Captain Hastings.

I vote for Al Giordano, trusty sidekick to Dirk Pitt in the Clive Cussler NUMA series.

And it might be a push, but Tarzan's trusty Nkima has got to be in there somewhere!

I love sidekicks! They're always my favorite character. It would be hard to narrow the list down to ten, though, even if you made it a smaller playing field (like, sidekicks in mystery novels). Definitely Archie Goodwin, and how about Jeeves, Campion's Magersfontien Lugg, Wimsey's Bunter, I like J.D. Robb's Peabody too, Chet Morton from the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew's Bess and George . . . I know I'm missing a ton more.

And don't even get me started on television! Iolaus, Roy DeSoto, Illya Kuryakin, Templeton Peck, Starbuck (the original one) . . . (not that I have a weakness for blond men or anything *G*)

They missed all the mystery sidekicks: Dalziel's Pascoe, Thomas Lynley's Barbara Havers, Poirot's Hastings, the already mentioned Joe Pike, not to mention Calvin's Hobbes, Tintin's Snowy (Milou in its original French), and Asterix's Obelix.

I like alienated solo detectives like Dirk Gently in The Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul.

Joe Pike? A Robert Crais character? Come on, the guy is a twisted fantasy. He's such a perfect badass he got on my nerve something fierce.

Seriously, Coleman to Tom Dorsey's Serge.

Other Pratchett sidekicks have already been mentioned, but come on, Albert and the Death of Rats are Death's sidekicks.

The Disc World also has Nanny Ogg for Granny Weatherwax, the Nac Mac Feegle for Tiffany and the luggage for Rincewind. In fact, Terry Pratchett really does all around wonderful sidekicks.
