Hell is dipping precariously toward 32 F.

I know this because I'm holding an e-ticket confirmation for Jet Blue, destination LA. I swore I was never leaving NYC again after freezing to death in Boston last month AND having to forage for vittles cause a major water main break closed most of the eateries in the hotel's hood. (The fact that I found THREE wonderful potential clients assuaged my pain of course).

But here we are now heading toward BEA season, and BEA is in LA. If I could find an mp3 of a primal scream, I'd insert it here.

Fortunately Eric Stone has been kind enough to offer to fetch me from the Aerodrome. I hope he's bringing a portable bar. I'm bringing a stun gun; I've seen LA Story, I know what it's like out there in Lotusville.

However since Hell is now close to freezing over, I figured I'd better sharpen my skates. And maybe ...practice.

The ice is certainly melting out here today - fast heading for another day at 100 degrees F or thereabouts. I'm moderating a panel at the Burbank Public Library. It's called "How To Write Good" or something like that. It could be "Primal Screaming for Kids" for all I care at the moment. The place is air-conditioned.

If I recall correctly, you are on a morning flight. Even on Jet Blue you can get a bloody Mary. I recommend them. Apparently you'll need vitamins for BEA.

Even I, scotch drenched, liquor sot that I am, do not drink bloody Marys at 6am.

On the other hand, never say never.

And I must admit that the bloody marys on Jet Blue leave something to be desired. Still, what with open container laws being heavily enforced these days on the highways and byways of sunny Southern Cal, it's either that or waiting until I can get you to a proper establishment - rather than my car - to get you liquored up.

Don't fear- it's pretty warm here in LA right now.

There's a hilarious scene in a movie, which I can't remember, where Woody Allen goes to L.A. and feels like he's dying because of the sunshine and the healthy foods. That'a what I was thinking while reading this post.

The standard for traveling agents has just been elevated. I was hanging out down at the Jersey shore with one of my author dudes tonight and when I had to hop back on the train for NYC he gave me a go-cup....with Johnnie Walker BLUE!

Holy moly!

I'm in LA at the moment and we broke 100F today.

At least you'll get nice and toasty first to help you stave off some of the coming chill.

(Of course, Johnnie Walker [in any color] could help you do that from NY, and nicely.)

Out here in Phoenix, we fill our great big water bottles with vodka tonics and nobody is the wiser...

My tenth grade English teacher used to drink from a water bottle all day, and one day some friends and I thought it would HI-larious to spike it with clear rum. We waited anxiously for that first sip, and when it finally came she didn't bat an eye. Drank a big slug and continued nattering on about gerunds or whatever.

Water bottle? I think not.

See ya in a couple of weeks!

Forget the travel stuff. You managed to write "vittles" and "assuage" in a brief post! Well done. They're very nice words.

Hey Bill! A couple weeks??
