Not dead, not fled!

 Janet!

You have not posted anything since your wallet came home, and since stolen wallets can lead to kidnapping, I'm worried about you. Please just post something - a picture of a pine marten? Just to let everyone know you're OK.

I see you, slacker shark!

Pine martens are one of my favorite animals. They are the cutest, sweetest-looking things, but I just saw something that said "don't be fooled...they can take down a deer." It might be my patronus.

I apologize for being a slacker shark here at the blog.
I've had my nose to the grindstone.

I've gotten a lot done but I also have a very pointy nose!

  1. Absolutely NOT insinuating slack! You take all the time you need to do your things. It was really just the wallet thing and my overactive imagination. Glad you're okay:)

  2. Happy to see you're still alive! *waves* And watch out for those Pine Martens. Vicious little things.

  3. Got a rejection from Ellery Queen to prove I'm still alive. I'd rather have a visit from a pine marten.

  4. Janet! Glad you're still with us. The pine marten doesn't look like it could eat a shark, but you never know. Those whiskers look cute but those eyebrows clearly mean business. Stay safe!

  5. We had a pine marten in our back field for awhile (they're now pretty rare in Ireland). He'd pop his cute wee face through the foliage and say Hi, then disappear, then emerge somewhere else with his little eyes & whiskers. THEN a few moments later, he'd run past carrying a rat/rabbit/elephant in his mouth, then another, then another. We counted six in the space of about five minutes once. Michael named him the Babyfaced Assassin.

  6. Just glad to know you're okay, Janet. I've missed you.

Pine martens are beautiful creatures and very efficient hunters. About 40 years ago we had done at our summer cottage, perched in a pine tree watching our four-year-old son playing with his "flock" of chipmunks. He'd often have at least half a dozen around him, bribed with grain from the feed store. That pine marten probably thought that he'd stumbled across an all-you-can-eat buffet.

  7. Pine martens were created with only two ingredients: teeth and evil. At least sharks have the nurse and whale and basking.

  8. I love pine Martens. I didn't even know. Thank you for this. I was too sick Friday to see this. But it's wonderful.

  9. I have never heard of a pine marten. The things we learn about her on the Reef!

  10. Gretta... My daughter's name is spelled the same way. I just order your book, "The Operator." I grew up in a tiny village across the street from the Dimmock Hollow Telephone Company which was located in the living of the telephone operator's home. I wrote about it on a blog I had 10 years ago: http://2012diarydaybyday.blogspot.com/2012/01/pridefully-ignorant-or-just-not-buyin.html
