Its not all that Sun-day

Nice and chilly in NYC today.

63 now, but 48 overnight.

And I learned the hard way to check for "auto turn off" when buying small space heaters. This brand new one just blasts hot air till you turn it off.

I love the ease of online shopping but I had to buy three new office chairs to get the right now.

Now a second heater.

What's your biggest shopping boo boo lately?

  1. Not mine, but hub's. He ordered float bowls for his blower motor on his Chevelle and they were the wrong ones. So I returned those while he looked for the right ones. Ordered what he thought were the right ones, they came yesterday and they're the same stinking thing but with the gaskets and screws, etc. Thus the different part number and the doubled cost. And they're expensive to begin with. ARGH! So, back through the catalog again and maybe this time, he'll actually read the specs instead of just looking at the picture.

It's finally up to 54 today here in Michigan. We've had frost the past few mornings. And it's dark until 8am. It's coming...winter is coming...

  2. More of a bitch than a boo-boo. Carb rebuild kit for my chainsaw. Sent them the model and serial number and they sent a kit. I expected it to be the right one and didn't notice until halfway through that the bottom half of it was wrong.

The company lost a customer, because they refused to do anything to make it right.

  3. The Hub bought some new mountain biking gear (clothes) and the pants are not the right fit or style (they sent the right ones, he just didn't check them properly). Because he bought them from the UK and not Oz, the return postage is more than he paid for the pants.

  4. I accidentally ordered the wrong strength of clarinet reeds and didn't even notice the mistake when the company sent a confirmation before shipping. These were way, way, way too soft and would have been unplayable for me.

Reeds aren't normally returnable (they go in your mouth), but they also aren't cheap. Since I hadn't opened the box, I decided to call about a return anyway. Though I was on hold forever, the customer service rep who finally picked up turned out to be a really great guy.

I'd been having a horrible day all along (the reeds were just the latest in a long string of minor disasters), but that CS rep turned it around. It didn't hurt that he kept telling me what a great customer I was to work with while he fixed my problem. He gave me a return authorization number, put in a new order for the correct reeds, sent me email confirmations for both the return and the order, and made sure everything was now all right in my world in the space of about ten minutes.

The only thing I feel bad about now is that I didn't get his name so I can't tell the company to give him a raise.

  5. I online ordered a pair of a lacy bra on sale from a local company. When it arrived, I was surprised that it was an XXXL. It was only when I read the ad closely that I realized that only the super plus sizes were on sale.

Erm...I am a petite human being.

But it was early days of the pandemic and lockdowns so I didn't return it anymore. My little way of helping out.

None of my friends have the 'capacity' to take it so I'm thinking of transforming the blessed cups into masks for two adults or winter headgear for two children or a water filtration system.

  6. We messed up on vacation and reserved non refundable rooms in three different hotels in three different cities of the same night. Gotta remember to check the dates three times.

  7. Ordering "bargains" online then realising when they arrive they are miniature size bottles of soap, etc. Many times. Sometimes wonder if the seller makes the photos look the wrong scale on purpose...

Also, Cecilia - ha!! I remember seeing photos of such "creative" face masks! My fave was the elderly Chinese gentleman who was literally just wearing a bra on his face. Bold.

  8. Timely! Last week I bought some jeans online, which were discounted in the online shop only, after trying them on in-store to check they fit/looked fine etc. The pair that arrived were AT LEAST two inches shorter than the ones I tried on, cutting off at the extremely flattering lower-shin area of the leg. (I do not possess the most delicate ankles in all the land.) They'll be fine with boots in winter, but are pretty useless for right now. (I'm in Australia.) Just goes to show, things can turn pear-shaped even when you do all the right things!

  9. It's not a boo-boo, but the opposite. Sorry! My most recent online purchase was a weighted blanket. Super-expensive, but I've used it for five nights now and I absolutely LOVE it. I was talking to my parents about it today, and I realised it was the best thing I've bought in... well, decades. In fact, I can't remember EVER buying anything as good as this. Well worth the money for the brilliance of the sleep I'm now enjoying! But not a boo boo, sorry.

  10. How about a success instead? I had a brand new vacuum that sat around for years because they couldn’t assemble the handle. So.... when the good vacuum went out I had them bring the new one with no handle to me. I analyzed it, researched my heart out, diagnosed the real problem-a missing connection piece, ordered the piece online, and assembled it! Quite a feat for a bookworm geek!

  11. No recent booboos, thankfully. At least so far. I have three pair of shorts on the way (all in one order via the mfr's web site, but all shipping separately from different stores. OK, then.) We'll see how that turns out. I'm also about to order long overdue running shoes, Vans, and running shorts and tanks. I absolutely hate buying clothes without trying them on.
