Maddie

Hi Janet,

I'm a huge fan of your blog! I don't comment much, but you're the first thing I read in my daily feed. You've even answered my question on maps a few years ago and replied to my chum bucket query! Even though my path has taken me (for now, at least) away from publishing and into filmmaking, I really value your posts, and appreciate everything you do for the community you've built.

As apartment dwellers, my partner and I never considered having a pet. Over the last year he was getting kitty curious, but was hesitant to commit. I suggested we try fostering from the SPCA. We were assigned Maddie at random and told we'd have her for a few weeks. Less than 24 hours later my partner kindly but firmly informed me there was no way we could give her up. Overnight he'd turned into a crazy cat person. I wasn't far behind.

Maddie joined our family just before Christmas. I don't know how we would've gotten through the pandemic isolation without her. She's cuddly and hilarious and an excellent mouser, and knows that flies are for eating and wasps are for watching from a safe distance. She keeps me to task, making sure I'm up at a reasonable hour and herding me back to my desk if I wander too far throughout the day.

She also loves devouring a good book.

Hiatus status report: Getting caught up on queries, and 2/3 of the way through a ms.
It's really interesting how taking just one thing off the To Do list makes a big difference!

  3. Hey, Maddie's famous! We're celebrating with a marathon head scratching session and an extra cup of coffee :) She says she hopes you're all writing furriously as she can't wait to munch on your books!

  5. Sarah G, Maddie is beautiful and very smart about insects. We named our first cat Renfield. When we brought him home from the humane society, we noticed how he liked to catch and eat flies.

Yay, Janet, for progress on the To Do list!

  6. Looks like Maddie has just been enjoying some tasty pages, too.

Wish my dog was as smart as Maddie. I've tried to teach her for years that hornets are not for eating.

  11. Lennon, we had a dog that persisted in playing with cane toads. We had to stick a hose down his throat every time to flush out the poison. He hated it. But he never stopped playing with cane toads *sigh*.
