Leo! |
This is Leo. I got him when he was three years old. His previous owner abandoned him at the stable where I was boarding. I paid the many months of back board owned and became owner number seven. Yes, the poor guy went through seven owners in three years. We had a lot of issues to work through together, but it was all worth it to keep him from the killers.---Elissa

So beautiful and what a great rescue!
You can also help Melanie by setting up the smile donation at Amazon, it doesn't cost you anything but a bit from purchases goes to the charity you choose. Proud Spirit is on the charity list there and I just got a notice that our at home covid shopping resulted in over 100.00 to Mel and her horses. I'm sure it all helps.
What a handsome lad, Elissa. I'm glad the two of you found each other.
It blows my mind, the way horses (apparently) change hands sometimes just as a matter of course. it also blows my mind that somebody would abandon a horse (or any animal.)
Leo! I have a Leo too (also bay), and I remind him often how lucky he is to have avoided a harder life. Like his half-sister (Gracie!) I adopted him at the end of his less-than-stellar racing career because he is a bit of a bad boy and I was worried he'd fall into the wrong hands. Instead, he gets to drive me crazy and make me laugh every single day. Good luck with your new partnership, Elissa! He's very handsome and lucky to have you.
Gorgeous horse, Elissa! Thank you for sharing Leo with us.
Elissa What a wonderful thing you did. I miss having access to horses. And I love that Melanie rescues horses in need.
Sharyn - hi! Off-topic, but I emailed you last week about your AirB&B. Able to connect offline?
Leo is a handsome fellow. Love the two white socks. I'm so glad you found each other.
What a handsome boy! So glad there are people like Elissa and Melanie in the world, and that Leo found one.
I love his colouring - he looks so majestic. Leo is one lucky horse to have had you in his life, Elissa.
Well, wow...! I'm just now seeing this. Thank you, Janet for the shout out about our work here at Proud Spirit. And as always, we are so deeply appreciative of your help.
Elissa - thank you for stepping up for this gorgeous boy. How unbearably heartbreaking that Leo had been shuffled around from owner to owner. We are (collectively) failing our horses in this country. Over 100 thousand are sent to slaughter every year - a brutal, gruesome way to die. We need more people like you.
Thank you to everyone for your kind comments.
He's gorgeous!
What a handsome guy. So glad he found a home with you, Elissa.
Well done, Melanie. If you all want an occasional shot of peaceful living, follow Melanie on Facebook to see her photos.
As usual, I'm late commenting, but I have always greatly admired Melanie and her husband, Jim. I donate to Proud Spirit for many reasons, but mostly because it's not easy doing what they do. They've seen a lot of bad things, saved a lot of animals from bad things. But in spite of that, she's posts the most beautiful, heartfelt photos of the animals that live there. And I say "all the animals," because she can't say no to pigs, cats, dogs, or goats apparently. :)
Elissa - that is a gorgeous horse, and you too, are a kind soul.
