Contest results-preliminary FINAL

You guyz really come up with some good stuff on short notice.

Here are the ones that made me laugh, or made me go "awwww."

The Seasick Mermaid
He sees you when you're sleeping.
He nuzzles you awake.
He knows if your tuna is bad or good.
Hurry up with the can opener, for goodness' sake!

Brian Schwarz
Ever get that feeling someone is watching you? Can't imagine why...

BJ Muntain
Secret agent cat, secret agent cat.
They've encroached upon your naptime and posted it online.

charlogo
Gossamer's superpower: horizontal surveillance.

Steve Forti
Pssssst. Hey kid. Down here. Wanna buy some catnip?

E.M. Goldsmith
Socks and quarters - that is my mission. No matching socks. Any spare change. If a human looks, disguise myself as the cat. No word will ever be said of the lurking sock demon of the couch.

Beth Carpenter
It's there, isn't it? That rejection, waiting in my special inbox. Well, it will never find me here.

Kathi
Welcome to my new flat. I'd ask you in but...

Lisa Bodenheim
Is it safe? La Slitherina and The Wombat are ok. But Death Kitten? Watch out!

Robert Ceres
I see you.

I have a winner in mind but let me know who you think it should be. Final results around noon (Eastern Shark Time)

FINAL RESULTS

Each of these was worthy of a win, and it was very hard to choose let me tell you.

Although I only posted a snippet of BJ Muntain's entry, there was an entire song offered up. That was effort above and beyond the call of the catnip.

And I'm glad to see that many of you agreed with me. The winner this week is indeed BJ Muntain!

BJ if you'll send me your mailing address and some of the books on your wish list, I'll send you a prize!

Thanks to all of you who took the time to write entries and post them. It was a lovely break in the weekend and a serious mood elevator.  Very much appreciated by all of us who read them.

And now, back to the trenches. BEA is over. BookCon is wrapped up for a year. Time to wade into the work that arrived while I wasn't looking!

  1. I liked so many, but it's down to a tossup between Lisa's "Death Kitten" and charlogo's "horizontal surveillance."

  2. Awww, the good learning from the Reefers here is rubbing off on me!

My faves? I like them all but this morning Beth's, Brian's, Robert's, and charlogo's hit the spot.

    I also liked Kathy Joyce's.

  3. Having already the best prize of all, in that Gossie is my kiddo, I recused myself yesterday, but did love a LOT of the entries! My feedback is at my blog, but allow me to say a little thanks to Janet and everyone who brightened my day, and made me cackle enough to scare Gossamer himself.

SO many winners. I honestly don't envy QOTKU for having to choose one.

  4. Love BJ's secret agent cat!

  5. BJ and Steve both had me cracking up yesterday, so I have to go with either of them. :)

  6. I really felt Beth Carpenter's. In fact when querying, I turn into that cat hiding under the couch.

BJ's secret agent cat made me chuckle as did Steve Forti's.

    These are so much fun.

  7. Definitely Gossamer. But cats always win. :)

  8. Awww, Gossamer! How lovely. (Also: New QueeyShark? New QueryShark!!)

In OT news, we bought IJ a house and like the crumb-covered mouse needed a hammock, a baby pool, and a veggie garden to go with it. Busy times around here.

  9. Glad I could bring a laugh. Also, I rather enjoyed Beth's entry.

  10. I read 'em at midnight and laughed so much, my dog came trotting into my office. If he only knew!

    My podium:
    Beth
    Steve
    E.M.

  11. Steve's made me laugh.
I can't get Secret Agent cat out of my head.
    Loved horizontal surveillance.

Looking forward to not having to work any more weekends (please God).

  12. No comment on the fine work here, other than saying I love the moniker "Seasick Mermaid" - I think we all feel that way one time or another!

  13. In other news:

BEA made the front page of our local newspaper. It wasn't there to promote reading, it was there because of the politics.

Seems that the Winner of the Popular Vote was the keynote speaker, followed by nonfiction writers exploiting the character flaws of the other guy.

My Queen, did you expect to come home with a political hangover after BEA? The other question is if you met her?

  14. I was humming "Secret Agent Man" all morning, including at church.

  15. So many of the entries were totally hilarious, I don't know how Janet narrowed it down to finalists. I kept snorting and snorting. It was not ladylike.

I'm gonna have to go with Kathi (and with Kathy Joyce, who didn't make the list, but was darned funny!).

    Good work, all!

  16. I have to toss in another vote for BJ's secret agent cat. It would be funny even if I'd never heard the song.

  17. My dilemma - I love BJ's Secret Agent Cat but I'd work charlogo's 'horizontal surveillance' into the caption, too.

(I would suggest a double prize but I am too busy to go to Carkoon just now.)

  18. I knew it would be BJ. Congrats! Secret agent man will be stuck in my head for a long while

  19. Ha! I knew it! Congrats BJ! You deserve it! :)

  20. These sure made me chuckle. Congrats, BJ!!

  21. Congrats, BJ! Great words smithing. And now I know the name of that tune! (The problem with growing up hearing impaired--love the tunes but couldn't hear the words or the titles).

  22. I blinked and missed a day. I feel like the high schooler who didn't get the party invite! Congratulations to BJ! So cute!

  23. Congrats, BJ!
Very funny update on Secret Agent Man - I can hear it playing in my head. 007 Kitten - Meow!

  24. Eek! I won something! Wooooooooooo! Yay! (I got so excited, dancing even, that I scared the dog.)

Thanks so much Janet and everyone. I, too, got that song stuck in my head the minute I saw that kitty hiding there.

I'm so glad everyone enjoyed it. And I loved reading all of yours, too. It's so nice to laugh at something online once in awhile. :)

  25. 'Mehow'can can anyone decide?

  26. Congrats, BJ, way to go!

Now I have to do a search for Johnny Rivers and play some Secret Agent Man ... except then I guess I'll be singing it the rest of the day, which is not kind to anyone within earshot. Consider yourselves lucky, online friends!

  27. Way to go bj!!! Well deserved! Now we'll never get that song out of our heads :)

  28. "That was effort above and beyond the call of the catnip." Ha!

    Congratulations, BJ!

  29. That darn song...or is it that darn cat?
    Either way great job BJ.
