Don't need no sick-fishes 'round here. Swim well.

  6. Cute photo but ohmanalive, if you're feeling this topsyturvy...not good. Healing thoughts continue your way. And drink plenty of fluids. Including hot toddies.

  7. Sorry to hear you're sick. I hope you feel better soon.

  8. Given the forecasts for NYC, being under the weather is pretty far down.

    Feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hope you're feeling well enough to be able to read - doesn't sound like there's much else to do anyway, judging from the weather reports. So cuddle up, STAY WARM, and be extra nice to yourself. We'll all be here to welcome you back. <3

  10. Get well soon, Janet. Of course, looking out my window, bed is the best place to be right now. I'm about to call off work and crawl back under the covers myself.

Colin added me to the list! Now I guess I'd better figure out something to put on my blog in case anyone goes to check it out.

    Stay warm everyone!

  11. Rest and stay warm. Hibernate until all better. We miss you.

Off to do some writing ... And reading

  12. Geez, day 3. I hope you start feeling better soon!

I've been taking this time, like other commenters suggested, to visit some of y'alls blogs.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Snuggle down. Feel better. Hot toddy time.

  14. There's nothing encouraging I can say. It sucks. Which does remind me that sucking on tangerine slices seemed to help.

    Best I can do.

  15. Is Julie M Weathers around today?

I stopped by her blog but whenever I try to comment I get a 403 message.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Does this rotten "crud" call for an sympathetic (NOT snarky) "bless your heart???" I think so.

Ready? Awwwww! Bless your heart, I hope you feel better soon! I told my Mom you were sick, and she said, "Starve a fever, feed a cold.) Don't know which you have, but she didn't kill me while I was growing up, so there MUST be some truth to it!

We still have power (YAY!) And as I am posting a comment, I wasn't killed by a tree last night. I've delivered a thermos of hot coffee to a neighbor who is without power, fed the birds, and now I'm getting ready to write some, then it's back to "visiting" folks out here!

  17. Feel better! Have some hot tea with your whiskey.

  19. Lucie - I left a comment on Julie's blog yesterday...but it took some doing. I didn't get a 403, but I had to hit submit a couple times - as the submit button was a little wonky. It may have posted twice, I haven't checked, but...all that to say, I was able to leave one.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lucie,

Yep, I'm around. That's odd. I'll check it out or get techie son to sort it out. Thanks for the heads up. I really enjoyed your blog post. What fun!

Poor Miss Janet. Three days of the galloping crud!

  21. We're at 16 inches of snow here in Pennsylvania; it's not expected to stop until late this evening. My dogs walked onto the back porch, looked at me like they thought I was joking, then promptly came back inside. This is bananas.

I think everyone experiencing this blizzard is hunkering down with you in spirit. Take good care of yourself, use this time to do all the things that nourish the soul--read your favorite books, eat your favorite goodies, watch your favorite movies--and, most importantly, feel better!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Day 3 of get well wishes, Janet.

  23. Oh dear. Still suffering from a sinister sickness eh?

Sending you many healing vibes, teas, soups, ginger ale, hot toddies, crackers, hankies, etc.

Oh, and sending you some dvds. If you don't have some comfort movies—you know, the ones you have to watch when you're sick because they make you feel a little less miserable—it'll have to be a copy of our favorites.

*Packs Newsies, You've got Mail, Funny Face, North By Northwest, LOTR, Sense and Sensibility(1995 version), Gladiator, Flight of the Navigator, Monty Python, Gone in 60 seconds, Matrix, Jurassic Park, Oceans Eleven*

Anybody else have sick movies to send?

    Stay warm and feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks for introducing me to Jack Reacher. 2nd weekend with him. I could get used to this.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hope you feel better sooner.

  27. :( Awww...!! :( Keep toasty warm, Mighty Shark. Are you at least feeling somewhat better than yesterday? I hope so, and I hope all the love, warmth, and fun from the comments over the past few days is aiding your recovery. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dad used to make us drink hot tea with lemon & whiskey when we were young and mum smothered us with Vicks. It usually did the trick when we had a cold and fever. I hope you're feeling better soon.

I tell you, when your trip starts off on the wrong foot like ours did, is it any surprise we got sick during our stay and now when we're supposed to return to Paris, a blizzard decides to descend upon us and cancel flights so our return will be as much of a nightmare as when we came? No, of course not.

Anyhoo, *Sliding Doors, When Harry Met Sally, Bridget Jones's Diary 1 & 2, Sabrina, The Devil Wears Prada, La Môme, Eat Love Pray, Julie and Julia*.

But, then again, you're probably into thrillers rather than chick flicks like in your reading sooo, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Bourne series are great.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ugh, crud. Stay warm, eat whatever you want, read whatever you want. Or watch; during my time on the couch in October-November, I did a loooot of watching things, almost no reading or writing. Animaniacs is on Amazon Prime, as is Luther. A teensy bit of Chopped and that Best British Baking show are on Netflix.

And...I got good news this week regarding my health issues. It involved a road trip to Cleveland, and there will be future ones. But, I'm pretty pleased at the moment. Other than with the cold.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Good gravy! Get better! I know how long my creeping mung has lasted and I certainly don't wish that on you.

Okay, I managed to get the comments turned on but cannot get the comment moderation turned off on my site. I'm ready to give up and move it somewhere else...and I'm NOT a Wordpress novice!

    ReplyDelete
  31. NM: Have you gone to WordPress support and asked them about it? Do you host your own site? I've been on WordPress for nearly five years now, and I'm very happy with it. I host my own site, so I don't know how much that makes a difference. I hope you find a solution soon.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kae: I have added your site to the list. How's that for an incentive to get your technical issues sorted out? ;)

    1. Thanks! And yes, true: but insofar as I am able to do anything, it's being done! The ball is... Unfortunately... In another person's court at the moment. And I'm almost all out of 'ball - runners' (is that what you call those people who run out and retrieve the tennis balls during matches?)
      But thank you!!!

  33. Meg V: YES to "Newsies" and "Flight of the Navigator!" I find when I'm not feeling well (with colds, etc), I tend to watch my favorite movies from my childhood. Right now, I'm binge-watching "The Wonder Years" on Netflix. There's something about nostalgia that is comforting when you need comfort most.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Three days? Lightweight.

Today marks three weeks since I fell off my bike. I still have six weeks to go... minimum.

Don't be me. Heal fast(er). Feel better. Someone around here needs to be bringing in some cash. It sure ain't me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. *Adds The Grand Budapest Hotel and Roman Holiday to comfort movie pack*

    Love The Wonder Years, Susan!

    Rest well, Janet!

    ReplyDelete
  36. At this point I would suggest a Doctor's visit if you still feel icky on Monday: we have had a particularly nasty strain of flu here in Montana. Two of my elderly neighbors and a neighbor's twin toddler granddaughters were all hospitalized with Pneumonia this month. And the people contact is at a minimum here!

Take care, get rest, and get better soon!

    ReplyDelete
  37. When I feel too sick to hold a book, I love audio books. When I broke my ankle a few years back, I would wake up in the middle of the, restart what ever disc was in my player and fall asleep to someone reading to me. If you don't have a stock of audio books at home, you can probably get them from your library.

Julie, thanks for coming by to visit the pandas. Unfortunately my site sent you to the spam folder and when I tried to get you out, my finger slipped and I hit the wrong button, apparently. Oops! I lost someone else too. I'm pretty sure you said something flattering so thanks for that. I visited your blog too. Can't wait to read your books.
When the shark's away, the minions continue to play.

  38. I don't have a contribution to the movie pack (I'm not often sick, and when I am all I want to do is sleep and maybe read). However, you need to be sure "Casablanca" is in there. QOTKU would never forgive you, otherwise. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Janet, I really think that all of us should come over and take care of you. In the meantime, intensified blessings for a rapid recovery are sent your way! <3

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow. This sounds bad. I hope it is nothing series. Never fun spending the weekend sick.

  41. How can you twist like that, or is that the Loaner cat. I just talked to my parents in the heart of blizzard Jonas.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hope you feel better soon! Boo and hiss to all the winter crud going around out there.

  43. Movie list:

Father Goose, Roman Holiday, Welcome to Collinswood, Welcome to WoopWoop (Which is the Australian version of South Pacific...in the outback) Desk Set, Johnny Stecchino (Johnny Toothpick)

Sadly, like books the list is endless.

  44. Found it....(3rd and final)

    Cosi....(1996 Aussie movie)
Cossi fan Tutte by Mozart is preformed by the residents of an Australian Insane Asylum.

  45. Karen: It's such an amazing show! I'd forgotten how adorable Fred Savage was as a kid. I remember watching him in one of my favorite childhood movies, "The Boy Who Could Fly" and becoming smitten, and then he seemed to be in everything. Haven't thought of that film in years...

Is there such a thing/genre as nostalgia fiction? I think that's why I write so many coming-of-age stories--my heart lies with all things nostalgic.

Snow's up to the porch now and we still have hours to go. Hope everyone in its path is staying safe and warm and cuddling up with their kids and pets. You too, Janet--get better and stay warm.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hope you feel better soon and that the third day is the beginning of an upswing for you and a quick and brutal drop off a precipice for the nasty bug that's giving you a hard time.

To all of you toughing out the blizzard, take care and be safe.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Donnie Brasco (you won't find a better central conflict in a movie - plus, great actors - Johnnie Depp, Al Pacino, etc.) FBI agent going undercover to bust mob guys.

If you have Netflix, "Making the Murderer" - 10 episodes will kill 10 hours and if you make it through episdoe 2, you won't stop until you're finished.

    Feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ack, yuck! Feel better soon! But at least you may be catching up with reading/shows?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Boo to the spammer. I'll refrain from wishing the crud on you, but go away.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Janet, I hope you are able to curl up somewhere warm and read/ movie watch the crud away. It looks like there are a lot of good suggestions here!

I think I'll lurk around a few blogs as some of you are doing.. I haven't had a chance the last couple days but from the comments it sounds like there've been a lot of good entries. One good thing about snow days :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. What can I say that hasn't been said already? I'll just add my voice to the chorus: Keep warm, drink hot liquids, indulge yourself, and get well soon!

A little animated imagination to take your mind away and lift your spirits:

*Shrek, Up, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, Inside Out, Spirited Away, Monsters Inc, Kung Fu Panda, Wall-e*

    ReplyDelete
  52. I hope you're feeling better now--the crud is horrible. Based on what I see on the news, you're about to get socked with snow and have to stay in.

french sojourn--I definitely second Father Goose as a comfort movie. One of my favorites that I haven't watched in years. Guess what I'm doing the rest of the afternoon?

@LynnRodz Hells bells and buckets of blood. Are we related?

@Janet_Reid Hope you're on the mend, Janet. From the news reports I'm hearing over here about the weather in Eastern USA, staying in bed seems best. Meantime we're sweltering in 95 ºF.

Take care all you lovely Reiders.

  54. I reported the spammer, a lot of good that will do...

Colin, it's the template. As soon as I changed to another, the moderation was turned off. But I want my previous template!! *she whines*

  55. My favorite pick-me-up movie is The Enchanted April. Proof positive of the miracles of a sunny Italian villa.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh no, day 3?! Sending oodles of warm, health-filled Australian thoughts and best wishes for a speedy healing your way!
The news reports here are showing NY looking frightfully cold. And I know it's not just NY! Dear all Reiders affected, stay safe and warm; Thinking of you all!
And re comfort movies, seeing as this is Janet we're compiling the list for, did anyone mention Jack Reacher yet? It's been a while, but I seem to remember that Tom Cruise did a fairly satisfactory rendition? :)
Get well soon, dearest QOTKU. We miss you!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Looking at that cat pic, maybe we should send for an exorcist.

Rest and heal, Janet. Looks like Mother Nature is in agreement with that sentiment, sending a blizzard to trap you inside for a few more days.

This might be a week best not reviewed. After two full days (and nights) of listening to SCREAMING and the sound of plastic scraping over ice, I am so done with the sledders on my street. Why, yes, I am feeling rather Grinch-y.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'll add a couple of movies to the list: Pirate Radio, True Grit (The Coen brother's version) Miss Potter, Calendar Girls (or anything with Helen Mirren), and I concur with Enchanted April

Hope all the Eastern Reiders are warm and dry! Out here on the upper lefthand corner of the crumbling empire, it is merely....raining.

  59. I've finished a loooooonnnng day of editing and am bouncing around to some blogs. Couple notes for folks, if interested:

SD King, great stuff, but I was unable to leave a comment.
Megan V, when I try to visit your link from Carkoon's Most Wanted, I get a message that the wordpress author has left the building.

Now I'm kinda what you might call a rookie at this website/blog thing as anyone who has visited my site can probably tell ya (Please, offer any suggestions to my eager ears!), so I might've done something wrong in my visits. But that was my experience. I'll keep knocking on some other doors...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Allison, did you keep sliding off the bed? If you did, then we're related. I never knew if I was drunk from the whiskey or slippery from the Vicks. In any case, I always felt better in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  61. NightsMusic, I don't know Wordpress from a hole in the ground (I use Drupal) but I see that there is a Disqus plugin for WordPress.

I use Disqus for my site. It allows people to comment using openID (WordPress included) along with twitter, Facebook, Gmail or Disqus accounts. Works much better than Drupal's native commenting system. Maybe someone who's using it on WordPress could chime in?

    --

All the best Janet, get well, avoid snow.

  62. I'm running into some issues when I try to visit some of ya'll. Anyway, I've tried - but in many cases I have no way to let you know I've been by.

For those who've dropped in on my site - THANK YOU! I love that you did!

Back to writing and then I'll visit some more. I'm enjoying getting to know YOU!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I just started yoga. I'm going to bring this picture in and say, "Can you help me do this?"

I hope you're better today. We miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have been visiting sites and like Donna, finding that there are some I can't follow or leave messages on. But I am really enjoying seeing what everyone does with their sites and blogs.

Janet, I hope you are keeping warm and feeling a bit better today. Keep resting until you really are better. There are some ugly crud going around. Sending healing thoughts your way.

    ReplyDelete
  65. John Frain-Thanks for trying to stop by. It looks like my co-writer deleted the site...Ah well. Not much to be done there.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Panda, I'm so happy to have found another Enchanted April fan. The novel is wonderful, too.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I missed yesterday - so sorry to see you're still ill, Janet. :( I agree with Janice. If you're not feeling better by tomorrow, or if you've got worrying symptoms, talk to your doctor. It's too easy for something normally simple to become an infection of some kind.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Forget chicken soup - here's my favorite get-well recipe!
    Pumpkin pie oatmeal:
1 c each water and vanilla soy milk (or milk product of your choice)
    1 c old fashioned oats
    1/2 c canned pumpkin
    1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
    1/4 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp. sugar (or to taste)
Boil everything except the sugar and vanilla in a saucepan for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and vanilla. Makes 2 servings.
So comforting - smells like Thanksgiving and rich in vitamins A, C and fiber. Get well soon, Janet!

  69. Hey Sharque;

I awoke this morning without the comfort of your words.
Day five; did you manage to corral Jack Reacher, at last?

It reminded me of our two days in Huahini and the three days in Bora Bora...although it felt like 12 nights. The hostage situation as we referred to it.

My wife Betty has mentioned that I've been a bit churlish lately. The passel of lil nippers are growing and writing is hard.

I just wanted to drop you a note, and say we miss yah. And we miss rolling over in the morning and not seeing your words.

    Fondly
    Felix Buttonweezer.

    cheers Hank
