Alyssa Smith, an editor and friend, lost her apartment to a raging fire yesterday. Everything, everything is gone.
She is alive and well, as are the other people who lived in houses around hers. Sadly, some of the animals did not survive.
This is the kind of catastrophe that makes me laugh at how bothered I was by the Great Email Meltdown last weekend. What a silly thing that was to fret over.
I am so sorry to hear about the losses you're experiencing at this time. Know that I'm praying for you and I will continue to hope for you. Brighter days are ahead, but right now they're a little hard to see.

ReplyDeleteI saw that this morning. It's just terrible she lost her poor pets. I blogged before heading to work. I donated. It's a shame there's no auction like for Nashville. I'm sure we'd get her on her feet in no time :-)

I've lived through a fire. All I can say is to echo what Wry Wryter says. It fades. The hurt will never go away, but it does fade.
ReplyDeleteThe smoke fades and when it does you'll see that you're surrounded by friends and people who love you. It isn't the things you lost, but the people who gave them to you that matters and the most important thing is that you're still here for them to give you more and they're still with you to do the giving. :)

ReplyDeleteHaving been through a fire myself and losing everything (but the things that mattered: life and loved ones) I can totally sympathize with what Ms. Smith is going through. I'm sending lots of hugs and prayers her way.

ReplyDeleteI almost lost my husband last year and I can tell you that your heart will mend a teeny bit every day.
And a teeny more every time a friend reaches out to you.
At least she is OK. It sort of puts everything into perspective in terms of the small stuff we carry on and fret about.
ReplyDeleteThis should be a reminder to renters in apartments to have homeowner's insurance. Even renters should have insurance, because it pays for a hotel for several months until you can find more permanent housing. And it pays for the loss of property so you can get back on your feet. it is worth going on a budget to have this necessity.
It is a nightmare.
What an awful situation to go through. I can't imagine the devastation, especially of losing one's pets in such a manner. Everything else is replaceable. A hassle, but replaceable. Thanks for passing the link around and helping make sure these two women have a network to rely on. They'll be in my prayers.

I, too, am really sorry to hear about this. We have a fire raging here in Northern AZ right now, with evacuations, etc. Cyberhugs go out to Alyssa for her losses!
