Here's a hilarious story by Nicki Leone about a a reading she did for Banned Books week some years ago. I wonder if she'd reprise it for a fundraiser? Heck, I'd pay!
"So I sauntered up to the mic and said that I was going to read from a story that, if it hadn’t been banned yet, probably would be by the time I was done reading."
What I wouldn't have given to have been in that audience! And her point about banned books being there to make us squirm? So perfect. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing this. Now if I can just convince my brother to do the same thing at his independent bookstore...
Thanks for posting the link, Janet. I'm glad people are enjoying the story, which I'm sorry to say is completely true. I'm afraid I couldn't look my town book reviewer in the eye for a month afterwards. And he, poor soul, had trouble looking at me!
Keep your comments succinct. Any comment that runs longer than 100 words is generally too long.
If you're commenting more than three times a day, it's too much.

ReplyDeletethe link doesn't work. I hope my book gets banned someday, insha'allah. I consider it to be a huge honor if a writer's books get banned.
ReplyDeleteThe link works for me.
