Vacation essentials

Is there a food you only eat on vacation?

  1. Glazed donuts. They're my crack and I don't go near them anywhere but when I'm on vacation. Ever. Or I won't stop eating them. (love the cereal!)

  2. Conch but only if we harvest them ourselves and somebody else tenderizes them.

  3. I guess that would be all-you-can-eat hotel breakfast. Man I love those. It's so nice when other people cook AND clear up!

  4. oooo, yes NLiu. I loved to go to B&Bs just for that reason alone.

When the kids were little and we rented a condo at Ocean Shores, Washington, oreos and the makings for spaghetti were necessities.

  5. Most vacations feature Conch and Snook. Both are banned from commercial harvest.

Those vacations also feature drinks with pineapple juice and those little umbrellas.

  6. When we would take the kids to Hawaii, we'd always pick up poptarts and caramac candy first thing. Pineapple, too, but we ate that at home occasionally.

  7. I'm with NLiu, save me a spot at the hotel breakfast. OTOH, I better stay at a different hotel, I probably wouldn't leave you enough.

I thought that was Sharks cereal too, but upon closer examination I see it's a box full of fruit snacks. And there is a little bit of blood spatter on the side, but we can examine that after I put my latex gloves on.

  8. Well, this isn't going to sound very epicurean, but I always slip a couple of those little buffet-size cans of Spaghettios into my suitcase, for when I'm craving the creature comforts of home. Hot or cold right out of the can, they're delish--and also the perfect antidote for a hangover.

  9. The last vacation we took was in 1990 in San Fran. We stayed down on the Warf, and every morning I bought bread from the Boudin Bakery. I don't eat bread normally, but that bread was so good. What we didn't eat I fed to the gulls.

  10. We just got back from a road trip and vacay to Dallas. Each time we travel - and ONLY when we travel - I purchase Oreos and cheese Ritz Bits. Can't leave home without them.

  11. In my younger years, I kept a pound bag of plain M&Ms for vacation travel.

Now, I put half&half in my morning coffee while on vacation. It's good, but I prefer the M&M years.

  12. Theresa, with the power vested in me by the pandemic, I grant you permission to return to your younger years.

You look great posing with those M&Ms!

  13. You'll appreciate this: I discovered and only ate shark steak on vacation in San Diego. Haven't had it in years and I believe it's now endangered, so you're safe! :-)

  14. Eggs Benedict. Each place seems to have it's own special style of eggs benedict, and for breakfast it's always a treat.
