This is Georgia, the newest member of the canine clan at Proud Spirit.
Jim is a police officer and spotted her while doing patrol near a wooded area of our rural town. She was emaciated, dehydrated, covered in fleas and ticks, her ear was ripped, and she has scars all over her face and body. She'd also clearly had several litters of pups. Jim coaxed her into his patrol car then took her to our local vet.
The Reader's Digest version is, after eight days at the vet where she had time to begin recovery and get spayed, we made her a part of our family.

Mama Melanie, she's gorgeous. She's obviously used to being with people which makes her situation heartbreaking...but it comes with a happy ever after. There are good people in our Reider pond.

ReplyDeleteOne of the local rescues I support picked up a dog last night that had been shot (more than once, they think) then tossed from a moving car. I don't understand the mentality it takes to inflict that kind of cruelty on an innocent animal. I'm so, so glad Georgia found a loving forever home. She certainly deserves it. And bless you for all that you do.

ReplyDeleteA warm, comforting picture. Hard to believe (actually not hard to believe) the trauma she endured. Too many dogs have been abused. My brother had a wonderful German Shepherd.about as close to the perfect family member one could have, and Rex too had been abused before he was rescued, and my brother and his wife and son adopted him at their local kennel.
ReplyDeleteI went to the Proud Spirit website and looked at the dog pictures There must 15 dogs on the farm (in addition to the horses and pigs). A humbling and inspiring place.

ReplyDeleteLove that stripe running nose to skull. (Is that called the stop? I dunno.) I bet she thinks sometimes it was worth the struggle through the woods to land in your sanctuary.
