The Duchess of Yowl has a cross word for the waitress

Duchess of Yowl: The answer to 7 Down is Feline.

Me: (counting squares) Seven letters, your grace, not six.

Duchess of Yowl: Felines. That's seven.

Me: The clue says "ice cream treat"

Duchess of Yowl: I don't like ice cream. You can just hold the ice and bring the cream. Chop chop, waitress, I'm peckish.

Me: Your grace, it's less than an hour since I served you lunch. How can you be peckish?

Duchess of Yowl: Do I question your atrocious eating patterns? You wait till noon to eat tuna!

Me: Tuna! That's four across: served in sushi bars!

Duchess of Yowl: I am the answer for everything, it's true.

  1. Janet: Hmmm. 12 across. Seven letters...

Duchess of Yowl: That MUST be felines.

    Janet: Starts with F...

Duchess of Yowl: See! I told you.

Janet: Excessively picky. Oh, I know. Finicky.

Duchess of Yowl: Oh, so once again the answer has nothing to do with cats.

    Janet: (spit take)

  2. Oh bother I haven't even looked at the Sunday puzzle yet.

so....Thursday's clues were largely homonyms, which was both very clever and also sent me into a rage at like, 11 o'clock at night when I had settled into bed to do the puzzle on my phone before going to sleep. (Like the answer for the clue "ceded" was "sown", "Wring" was "phone", etc.) *extended sigh*

  3. I'd pay good money to see the Duchess of Yowl go up against the rudest waitress ever ... who's also funny as heck.

  4. Perhaps this is why DoY's humans take time away? They need to hang up their aprons once in a while.

  6. Thursday's puzzle kicked my asterisk.
This puzzle was NOT in the NYT.

It was in the Carkoon Daily.
I was lucky to get a single answer right.

  7. It's hard to get any answers right if the puzzle was written by cats.

  8. It's SUNDAY ‽ ... how did that happen‽
Now I am a day behind. My crossword puzzle is usually sat upon as soon as I lay down the Sunday paper.

(never miss a chance to insert an appropriate interrobang)

  9. Kate's bringing out the interrobangs - must be a party!! Hi, DoY!

    OK, back to writing.

  10. I am so happy I've been too busy to complete the Thursday puzzle.

Ha! Listen to me. As if "complete the Thursday puzzle" should even be a phrase in my vocabulary.

Shut up, Frain. Wait for Monday to roll back around...

  11. So . . . what's the real answer? Parfait? Dovebar?

This is possibly why I don't subscribe. I'd never get anything else done. Bad enough that I'm addicted to Scruzzleword.

What? You haven't head of Scruzzleword? Far be it from me to be a bad influence over here. Much.
