Need a house in Canadia?

Well, here ya go.
Never say this isn't a full service helpful blog.
Oh...if you do buy it, I'll be coming to visit every summer.
It only took one look at this:

to have me dust off my passport!

  1. Oh, I SO want that house. I'm in love.

  2. The house itself isn't really me, but I'd take it anyways. That price would only buy you half a garage in my area.

  3. Well, if anyone needs me today, I'll be under the bed sobbing.

    Must be NICE...

  4. If it's so great, why are they selling? Bet there's a plot in that story!

  5. Lovely place, eh? Here on my side of the country, that same house would be... OMG, maybe I should sell. You can see the ocean from my attic. And my lawn would look like that with plenty of help from a weed-wacker.

  6. Meet you at the airport. My desk has dibs on the upper, right window.

  7. $299,000? I could be Canadian for a house like that at such a good price.

  8. My parents live in New Bruswick--which is Nova Scotia's neighboring province. They bought a house at that size for less than $100k. They don't have the view, but they have five acres.

Here in Saskatchewan, $300k would get you a nice house, but not as nice as that one...depending on where you go of course. In the city or suburbs, you'll pay more than in the country.

  9. Ok, now I miss my house even more.

    Sigh.

Janet, find me something in the country. Preferably well off the highways with several acres. An old house would be great.

I'll make sure to keep a Janet bedroom available.

  10. *sigh*

    Gorgeous.

Though, this is the upper end of property prices in NS.

I grew up in Cape Breton (near this property) and it's my dream to buy a summer home there(though it sounds better when I call it my writer's retreat, heehee).

The place I've had my eye on just went up for sale and it's only 1/6 of the price of this one.

Though I still can't afford it. Wah!

  11. Having housesat in Nova Scotia for five years (Lunenburg area), I can tell you the province is beautiful. And the people, amazing!
But - being a prairie girl at heart, there's nothing like squeaky snow and dry summer heat.

  12. I would but, well, it's CANADA.... they have snow there, Janet. I just couldn't. Snow? Snow?

I'm in a sweater and wooly socks because the temp dropped below 90F today.

I'd be too frozen to write that far north.

    Lovely garden though.

  13. I notice you said you'd visit every SUMMER. For good reason! If you click on "more pictures," there is a picture of the yard in winter. Dear dog, the snow!

  14. Wow. I feel like Marty McFly checking out that 4x4. Some day...

  15. What a price!! I could be mortgage free now instead of at sixty. I'm sending this to my realtor.

  17. I'm in western BC and for that price you can get a thousand square foot house on half an acre...maybe...if you're really lucky...But I wouldn't trade my small house on half an acre for anything. I love it here!

Can we all put real estate adds on your blog now? We're still trying to sell our waterfront house in Tennessee! For that same price...any takers?

  18. Dibs on that bedroom in water colors.

  19. If you'd ever been to Nova Scotia, you'd know that getting through an east coast Canadian winter is totally WORTH IT.

  20. That's it.
    Canada has everything.

  21. We went through St. Margaret's Bay this August on the Cabot trail. If I'd seen the house, I would have made an offer on the spot. Gorgeous landscape, wonderful people, and the beach is close by! What more do you need?

Janet, did you ever try the Lunenburg County Winery fruit wines while you were there? We brought over a case home with us, and will be so happy next year when they become available in Ontario.

  22. Anne-marie,

One of our favorite places to take visitors when they came to see us. Didn't know they were "exporting" into Ontario - good news for when we visit the in-laws.

  23. I'll let you know after the election. If McCain wins I might have to move.

    Great pic. Very tempting.

  24. aimless - have a drink warning next time!

Heidi- DH and I talked, we'd rather live in Florida. It says something about my dedication to avoid cold that I'd rather have hurricanes every year than move north of Dallas.

  25. During the winter, you simply don a cozy sweater, build up the fire in the fireplace and curl up to read a book. Or watch hockey on the big screen TV with surround sound.

My mom rents the lower floor of a Victorian house with a wrap around porch and a view of Saint John Harbour (New Brunswick). All for $400 a month. Many of the grand Saratoga-like homes on her street go for about $200,000. A steal since my 3-bedroom bungalow here in Ontario is assessed at $350K.

Janet, I missed the ending of your roast 'cause I worked late. Hope you had a great time and got the sushi out of your hair.

  26. Chumplet: Low rent is one of the things I miss about Saint John, I lived in the South end (not far from the Giant Tiger), in a gorgeous little appartment. $500/month for three bedrooms. I moved to Regina where I'd be lucky to get a studio apartment for that price. Unless, of course, I want to move to 'the Hood'...

  28. I grew up about 30 minutes from Boutlier's Point, and the whole area is beautiful. The people are very friendly and welcoming, as well. One tip: visit in the summer!

  29. Janet,
a lot of the Nova Scotia wineries are exporting into Ontario (selling through the LCBO) within the next year. This still didn't stop us from loading the car up just in case... Stutz Cider is a delight I am also looking forward to- best cider I've tasted outside of northern France.

Aimless writer: we are in the midst of an election here too. If the Conservatives win, we are considering moving down south (my husband is from the US!) after an Obama victory, of course...
