almost!

While I finished the reading project yesterday, and got notes off to the writer, I still haven't fully regained my wits.

And you want me to have all my wits about me when I read your contest entries!

So, I'm hoping to get that done today.
A lot got pushed off Mon-Wed so getting re-balanced will take most of the morning.

In the meantime,
George!
Meet George.
George is a mini-greyhound/black lab mix. After running around like a wild monkey on crank and being a couch potato--unlike a full-blown greyhound after a vigorous sprint--his lab nature kicks in, and he is ready to go again in about an hour.

George is a rescue dog, uncomfortable with men. For the longest time, he would growl and occasionally snap at me. That behavior troubled the rest of the family. They probably expected me to tell them to take him back to the shelter.

However, I never gave up on George. In between his skittishness and anxiety, I believed if shown kindness and respect, he would eventually come around. I understood where he was coming from.

And George did come around. After a hard session of Couch Potato, he'll come to me to go outside for a vigorous game of fetch. Sometimes he just wants to be near me or some pets.

George is my buddy

What a cool dog. And good on you for persisting. Taking the time to bond with a dog is so rewarding. He will be your bestie for all time.

I love that name! And what a great dog. Thank you for staying the course. Too many people bring a rescue home and askm to paraphrase JFK, what can this dog do for our family when they really need to ask, what can we do for this dog, to make him comfy, to help him fit in, to give him back some confidence and help him to be happy again. And then they end up back at the shelters. Or worse. Good on you!

I'm so glad that George found a home that will be patient with him and understand him! He's such a handsome boy, and looks like a great couch buddy.

Ulrike would LOVE the kind of buddy who's ready to go go go, rest a bit, and then GOOOO AGAIN. Sometimes she has more energy than sense (she's still a baby yet, we have to remember that. Remind ourselves, with patience.)

George, I get it. Life has thrown you some curve balls, but it's clear you've landed with a loving family. I hope you have many happy years together, playing fetch and chilling on the couch!

I've enjoyed all the pet posts/pics this week, but I especially love this story with its patience and love and kindness. So admirable, Anthony, thanks for sharing.

Janet, I am so curious to know the subject of a 160K-word biography (I first typed "biology" and it took me way too long to realize what was wrong about that word) (sigh). Must be someone who has led one heck of a life, to earn that many words.

Ah, George. I love it when our four-legged companions have human names.

Janet, I am in awe that you were able to read, comprehend and make notes on a 160K work book in only a few days. Just thinking about trying to do that makes my brain hurt.

George is clearly a Good Boy. His ears look super schnoogle-able. And what a lovely story!
