Upcoming vacation!

I'm heading out on vacation starting Thursday afternoon!
I can't wait!!

I didn't really know about vacations, as in taking time off work, as a kid.
We had school vacations but my parents didn't really do the Take the Tykes to Disneyland kind of thing.

We took trips with Grandmama to the shore, but my parents stayed home...working.

So, discovering vacations was a real bonus of becoming an adult! It took a while to get the hang of it but I've got it now.

So, while I'm off reading, sunning my noggin, and avoiding any kind of green vegetable, what should we do here at the blog?

Animal pictures have been popular. Should we do that again?

Your suggestions welcome.  (Remember, the idea is I'm NOT HERE to do anything. Ideas about stuff we can put in the pipleine to post later.) Post in the comments section of this blog post.

Her Grace and Sleekness the Duchess of Yowl has a few ideas of course.

Enjoy your vacation, Janet. You deserve it.
My last vacation was March, 1990.

Have a wonderful vacation, Janet. We'll miss you and your sharkly words of wisdom.

I grew up on Cape Cod. Our vacation was jump in the station wagon and head to the beach with five kids in the back. Perfect! Or a drive in movie, mattress in the back for the second feature.

We went to NH once to see my aunt and go to Story Land. Years and years later I walked into Story Land for a writing job and got major deja vu realizing I had been there and now lived across the valley.

Ah ha, vacations !
Well boys and girls every day is a vacation for me and I don’t apologize for it. Do I work? Not a punch-in punch-out job but yes I work. Do I live by a schedule? Just look at my penciled-in and markered-up calendar.
Do I pack a lunch and commute? Nope. Not anymore. I raid the fridge and filler’ up a couple of times a month when I’m on the way back from my morning walk along the shore of Long Island Sound.
It took me a long time to get here and I almost didn’t make it.

So here’s some advice.
Go ahead youngsters work your asses off. Be proud. Love what you do and do not wear your job like a badge of courage.
Take vacations. They restore the soul and renew life.

Janet may you bask in the joy of time off. Life is good my friend. Life is good.

I am, of course, perfectly willing to send more photos of Ramona!

While animal pix are ALWAYS a good idea, what about bombing Janet's vacation with pix of...vacations? Humble or exotic, daring or leisurely - you get the idea.
But if not, my twins, Luna and Luna, who are not quite kittens anymore at age 6, are happy to oblige Her Grace with their images.

Please don't tell me Les Sharque goes to the desert for vacation.
Everyone needs downtime...with a single malt.

There can never be too many animal pics. And I am going on vacation too. Not until Saturday. But I am. A real vacation on the shore with my daughter and pug. It's going to be great. Enjoy yourself, our wonderful queen.

I hope you have a great time. You deserve it.

Have a good holiday! Try to stay off the surfers.

I don't have a pet (not practical right now) but I am happy to see pics of other people's!

Hobbies and crafts. Those can include gardening or pets. It will give those without pets a chance to throw pictures at you too.

Have a restful vacation, mine tend to be more work than my working time.

Ra-MO-na! Ra-MO-na!
I vote for any and all photos of Reef pets.

Have a smashing vacation, Janet!

I really enjoyed pics of writing spaces. Maybe this time stage it with your favorite writing snacks and significant animal.

Pics of animals doing crafts on vacation? Count me in! I hope you enjoy your well-earned vacation, Janet.

Sharyn Ekbergh, I had to look up Story Land. I want to live there! It looks like a magical place, and I loved reading about how it came to be.

My choices:
1. Janet's favorite past posts;
2. Submitted photos or lists of the last five books we've read with a few words about each;
3. Vacation photos, then (growing up) and now.

Jamet, have fun, in any case!

I grew up in a pretty much vacation-free house, too. And as an adult I don't really get why people go away so they can lie on a beach and get sunstroke. I can do that at home, but I choose not to.

But - pet pics? Love 'em.

Favorite author quote regarding writing. Or rejection. Or editing. Etc.

Fearless Reider, if you get to Story Land at 9 am when they open, they play a recording of me singing Good Morning Story Land. Truth. It was a demo I made of a song I wrote for them and they liked the demo better than the finals done by pros.
I wrote much of the music in the park and did their TV spots for years.

Ooh I like the idea of the photo of the last five books we've read and brief commentary! As one of the petfree people, I struggle with the topic of the assignment when it's cats and inferior animals.

Enjoy your break, Janet!

Have fun!

My travelling days are over, unfortunately, so I'd like to see other people's vacation photos. Or pet photos.

I have lots of photos of my Forever Dog. If the pet must be technically-currently-living-here-but-not-necessarily-alive, I can scrounge up one of those, too. :-)

(No, we didn't stuff Echo!)

Both of my ideas have already been presented, so have yourself a merry little vacation while we jealously await your return.

Are you visiting Carkoon? Oh, wait, you said vacation. Never mind.

Godspeed!

Greatest Hits from past posts sounds like a good idea.

Also, Story Land! I have framed on my living room wall a collage with side by side photos of a young me in the 80s vs my young son in 2017 in the fake jail cell and my young wife from the 80s vs my young daughter in 2017 in the Alice in Wonderland cutout. The kids are probably too old for it now, but that place is great (except the singing vegetables are creepy as hell). Did you also go to Santa's Village?

I like the idea of vacation photos. Interesting things we've run across on our travels, so it's like the entire Reef is taking a vacation together. (And "travels" doesn't have to mean faraway places. Around here, what's local to one person is clear across the world to someone else.)

I second the idea of vacation/stay-cation/weekend-get-away pics, either favourite or worst ever, with a sentence or two about why. Oh, or pics of a dream vacation spot, if time and money and mobility were not factors. Maybe we all could guess the location.

Enjoy your time away from it all, Janet! When will you be back? You . . . are coming back, right?

Timothy Lowe said...

Love the vacation idea, both to share and for busy agents. Safe travels, Ms. Reid!

Have a wonderful time, Janet...relax...enjoy, wherever you may be. Hubby and I started ours a few days ago and will be until September.

(I 2nd/3rd photos of Ramona and I'm not even a cat lover.)

I second Jennifer Delozier's suggestion. Perhaps some peaceful landscape pictures also?

How does one get animal pics to you?

I'd love to see my fellow writers post pictures of their favorite vacation spots. Living vicariously through others is one of my favorite hobbies. :)

We sure had family vacations...70's style: creaky station wagon, leaking Styrofoam cooler in the back, over-stressed Dad looking like Chris Farley driving the school bus in Billy Madison...

Good times?? You bet.

I'm more than happy to send you more (slightly larger) puppy photos if we do a pet week!

I hope you have a fantastic vacation, whatever you choose for the blog!

pictures of your ideal writing spot? I guess that could run into liability issues though...

I am always up for pics of any kind.

How about pics of your fav writing muse? that way folks could choose between a pet, landscape, drink!, coffee shop, etc.

Also, have fun on your vacation, Janet.
