Fleur!

Fleur!

This is an almost eleven-year-old Newfoundland named Fleur. She named herself.

Her original name was Pflouff ("Floof") because when she was a puppy, she was a big ball of fluff. But people liked to joke that "floof" meant fart. I complained that she most certainly was not a fart -- she's a flower. So I nicknamed her Fleur.

Apparently she liked that name better. One night she just stopped responding to Pflouff altogether. I still say Pflouff quite a bit (after all, she was Pflouff for a decade), but if I want her to actually listen to me, I call her Fleur.

I love the name Pflouff! I love Fleur equally, but Pflouff has character. I didn't know it meant fart. She's certainly not one. Very regal looking in that pic which is about as far from a fart as one can get :)

I love Newfoundlands! Wish I had one myself. Give Fleur/Pflouff some love for me.

Fleur is majestic, what a gorgeous dog! (though ugh, floof does not mean fart, come ON)

I've never in person seen a Newfoundland puppy, but have seen videos on assorted dog training venues. Tiny fluffy bears!

Fleur is definitely a floof! and not the stinky kind. What a lovely pup!

I think Shakespeare once said, "A Newfie by any other name would smell as sweet."

Fleur/Plouff, you are worthy of sonnets!

Personally my first though on seeing our Newf puppy at eight weeks was , "My God, its a size three dog in a size eight dog suit. It was absurd, and adorable, and absurdly adorable."

Fleur is lovely. I just want to bury my hands in all that fluff and give her a good petting.

She's gorgeous! Is this the same Newfie who refused to meet the visiting Bernese/Pyrenees puppy, and avenged herself on everybody who was paying attention to it by wedging herself between the bathtub and the toilet, thereby blocking access?

A beautiful girl, in the right environment for her. It would be cruel to make a Newfy live in Florida

Was just thinking how very much I'm enjoying the pics of pets that are not the usual (although adorable) cats/dogs--

OMG, BEAR!!

Kidding. One of my sisters-in-law had Newfies, years ago, and one was literally named Bear. The kids named him. Sweetest, most gentle dog ever. And protective, in a sort of, "I'm just going to stand here forever between you and my kids, if you don't mind."

Fleur is quite regal. Thank you for sharing.

I always thought "POOT" meant fart, not floof! A Newfie by any name is adorably floofy (that does NOT sound like a fart!) and Fleur looks like a sweetheart. Such a Pleuffy girl! Thanks for sharing her with us.

My son plays D&D with a worker who has a Newfoundland. She goes under the table and puts her head in his lap and puts her head in his lap, I have no idea how, and then on the other side of the table you see this plumey tail wagging back and forth. Whoof

They are such great dogs. Fleur is gorgeous.
