Sunday

It's hot.
It's Sunday.
I think I've been absorbed by my couch.

Even the Duchess of Yowl, a skilled conversationalist is quiet.

How's your Sunday shaping up?

It's foggy and cool in San Francisco. I'm wearing an LLBean sweater thing-y and it's zipped up to my neck!

I hope you and the Duchess find ways to stay cool. I'm sorry about the extreme heat :-(
Resting on the couch seems an appropriate activity until the worst passes. Sending foggy thoughts your way (in more ways than one).

I went to the 7 o'clock this morning. When I got out of my car, my glasses fogged up. It was so hot in church, Father Jones sped through an hour Mass in 45 minutes flat.

OOps! I meant to type, I went to the 7 o'clock Mass this morning

I'm having a holly jolly holiday.

My husband's on a 4-hour bike ride. I'm being crafty making invitations for our epic annual beer party (7 rounds of blind tasting), and listening to the cast recording of Spamalot. I may/may not brush my hair.

Sending NYC cool breezes from Colorado. They're on their way.

Well, Janet, I guess that solves your dilemma about the Duchess of Yowl's heating cushion.

Hot and humid here in Southern Ontario, but at least we have a good breeze off the Lake. My Jenny-Cat still wants snuggles but she doesn't stay long. They're calling for less humidity by tomorrow, but until then I'm sticking to my recliner with the fans running. Reading, writing, and NO cooking today.

Sending lake breezes and cooling thoughts to you and DoY.

Just finished 2nd coat of paint in living, dining room. The air is too much like soup to do anything outside.

To answer that never ending question: white. Too many different colors and materials for the paintings to try and find anything that matches. Past experiences haven't been good with colors.

The warm beige from last year ended up looking like mud, even though you could see about two square feet of it. Just the bathroom has 20 pictures hanging.

It’s sunny and (finally) cool in St. Paul. I might even move my knitting out to the patio. Packed the youngest off to music camp this morning, but swapped him for the eldest, who’s back to the nest for medical treatment, newly diagnosed with Crohn’s, alas. Wishing everyone cool breezes, smooth digestion, and a happy Sunday!

Sounds like a "reading in front of the fan while eating ice cream" day. Or you can cool off like we do in Alaska. (Sorry I can't seem to do the link thing.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIzYWBMCckM

5 minutes before I left for church, I discovered my basement carpet was sopping wet. Thought it was the a/c. Phoned the company. Since I didn't have a service contract, they could schedule me in August! I asked what was the sense of purchasing a new a/c with them 2-years ago, hung up, stomped around, and slammed some doors (they're still on their hinges). The a/c company called back, yes indeedy I am warranty-covered, and said they could come Thursday!? wow.

I left my adult daughter in charge and made it to church 15 minutes before service started (I'm solo pastor). My sermon was titled "Distractions."

In addition, today is parade day in my town and my house was blocked from traffic until 1:30. I returned from church and parked 2 blocks away so I could walk across the parade route.

My adult daughter helped me discover the leak is not the a/c. It is a copper pipe going into the water heater that has sprung a leak. A thin stream of water (looked like a cobweb) was leaking from my copper pipe going into my water heater. The leak hits the furnace, then mists the area around the furnace and a/c. The turn-off valve is so old, I can't budge it. Duct tape didn't work but a rubber band and plastic bags contain the mist to a running leak to the floor instead of misting everything.

Now I'm waiting for a plumber to call (they were at or in the parade), for my neighbor to get home (from the parade) to borrow her shop-vac, and I'm helping my daughter wring out towels every hour.

Cool air here in the Midwest since yesterday, which heads east. Hope you and DoY get it soon, Janet.

Working

There's this old meme, going something like this: "Hooray!! It's the weekend... Oh, wait. I'm a musician."

Makes me laugh every time. Until I have to grab my cymbal bag and make my way to the car...

So, having said all this, I'm on my way to work right now. Doing this regular Sunday evening gig in midtown Manhattan. Usually they have the band on the rooftop, but management was pleasant enough to move the performance to the inside today; because musicians who pass out from heat exhaustion don't get people to buy more drinks...

I went to dog beach early because it was low tide. This time of year dogs have to be on a leash, but at least they can be on the beach. It was cloudy and cool. The sun has since come out and San Diego is glorious: 72 degrees, breezy, without a cloud in the sky. Dog and I are resting for the remainder of the day.

I went backpacking this weekend. And met two people who said they were going to buy my book. I didn't mention the book...my friend did. Winning!

Hottest day of the season here (so far) at 99* F. Luckily, I had my old decrepit HVAC systems replaced last week. Why yes, I will be eating nothing but peanut butter and carrots for the foreseeable future. *sigh*

But I had an AWESOME day, as my daughter and 14-mo granddaughter came over for a nice long visit. I was reminded that this is the age when "no" means both yes and no, depending on enunciation. There is nothing better than asking, "Do you want to come sit on my lap and I'll read to you?" and being answered with bright eyes, a giant smile and the word, "Nooooo?"

And then The White Ninja, who was remarkably patient about being chased behind the couch, and I took a nice long nap.

Just got back from a nice trip to Santa Fe to look at art. They had an exhibit in the New Mexico Museum of Art I'd been wanting to catch, plus an outdoor art show, plus the usual galleries around the Plaza's environs. Rain showers and gorgeous vistas enhanced the drive home. I got a good dose of both man's and mother nature's art.
