The Duchess of Yowl is a cereal killer

Duchess of Yowl: (suspiciously) what are you eating?

Me: cereal. Honey nut cheerios in fact.

DoY: It sounds crunchy.

Me: it IS crunchy. And delish.

DoY: Are you sure you're not eating my cat treats? I know you want them.

Me: This is definitely a bowl of cereal not cat treats.

DoY: (leaping onto table, poking nose in bowl) there's MILK in this bowl!

Me: yes, I pour milk on my cereal.

DoY: you have never offered milk to ME.

Me: Your grace, you've been quite clear you only drink cream and only on special occasions. Like National Cat Day. Or your birthday.

DoY: There's a national day for cats?

Me: Certainly your grace.

DoY: ALL cats?

Me: well, yes.

DoY: It should be just for me!

Me: It's true your grace, you are the pinnacle of catness.

DoY: Don't even think you're diverting me from that purloined bowl of cat treats.

Me: Honey Nut Cheerios your grace.

DoY: whatevs. Pet me while I sample this.

Me: Have at it Your Grace, I'm off to work.

DoY: Bring home better treats, this does not taste like tuna.

Went to dinner last night far removed from our local hole-in-the-wall eateries. Large restaurant, tablecloths in the dining room. We ate in the bar at a table the size of my turkey platter. Bar menu a bit more down to earth. Hubby had steak, rare, cool in the middle. I had a tuna melt.
Ah, the food of comfort, tuna on an English muffin topped in melted Swiss cheese.
DoY, tuna aficionado, you woulda’ loved it.

I used to eat a tuna sandwich almost every single day at work. I don't know how the cafeteria there made their tuna salad but it was really good. (The cafeteria was called Bits and Bytes, btw, perfect for an IT company don't'cha think?) Toasted wheat, tuna, slices of tomato, lettuce - yum!

Probably not as good as Colin's mushy Coco Puffs.

I'm old school and prefer tuna noodle casserole to a tuna sammie, but Loaner Cat is not too particular as long as it's tuna. She too likes the milk in my Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cat Snacks though :)

I make a fake tuna salad with chickpeas instead of tuna. I love it, but I'm not sure it would meet the DoY's standards. She'd probably quickly notice something fishy (or would it be unfishy?) about it.

DoY, you can have all my tuna. I'm that generous.

Amy the chickpea stuff sounds a lot better than the 'real' thing!

Sandwich of the day --or century: Whole Foods Tuna Salad with Cranberries on buttered, toasted Rosemary Sour Dough bread. Garden tomatoes and leaf lettuce, of course.

Donna: Coco Krispies mush better than Coco Puffs, but either will do for a tasty breakfast feast! And one of the best things about cats is they can't eat chocolate, so my mushy cereal is safe from our feline house-mates. And pretty much everyone else in the house truth-be-told... :D

National Cat Day, Shark Week ... methinks the Duchess has been tampering with the calendar.

"Tuna Tetrazzini" was part of the regular dinner rotation when I was growing up, and countless tuna melts found their way to my plate in college. These days I think I'd choose Amy J's chickpea salad, but I do not have the DoY's refined taste :-)

Speaking of the DoY, I believe I have found her picture book soulmate: Glamourpuss, by Sarah Weeks and David Small. If you're looking for a hilarious, heartwarming tale (tail?), I highly recommend it!

DoY, you keep eating tuna/fish, it's very good for you. I eat fish almost every day, definitely does keep things intact.

(And now, I'm even in Fish 'n' Chips-Land :)! )

So, Lennon, I'd take some, too ;). But you should actually have it yourself!

I still want the DoY to have her own book deal!

DoY, hold out for Lucky Charms. Not tuna, but they go soooo well with milk.

(I agree with Colin about Krispies over Puffs.)

I'm here to stick up for Honey Nut Cheerios - with milk or straight out of the box.

Do you really like tuna casseroles, nightmusic? ACK, bad connotations, has to do with one summer at band camp. One of those things you shrug off as a texture thing.

I make tuna with a little curry powder added. It ups the flavor and somehow alleviates those tuna burps that sometimes happen three hours later.

Cats, ours love tuna juice. They can tell a tuna can from a veggie can before an opener hits it and even while catnapping across the house. Give them the real thing and they walk away with that offended sway.

Amy, I would love your recipe, I am a fan of the garbanzo. Whole civilizations have been built on that bean.

Cocoa Krispies over puffs. Tuna Melt - never had it. However, I've had salmon brain, and that was delish! DoY would love it, I'm sure.

Craig F Why yes, yes I do! I own this one :)

I have few guilty pleasures, but tuna noodle casserole is one of them. And I don't make it often at all. I try never to use Red Can Soup in anything but I can't seem to get away from this. There was a time in my life when we were very poor and sometimes didn't have dinner for a couple days. When there was enough money to buy more than one chicken or eating mince for the third time in a week, this was our treat. Every once in awhile, it's comfort food.

I bet a decent tuna casserole could be made with a fresh béchamel sauce, rather than the red canned stuff, and add in some fresh mushrooms, sautéed in butter...yum. I've seen a recipe for faux tuna salad made with chickpeas, but have not tried it. Hmmm... something to try this week, perhaps.

Mehitabel was usually not one for people food, except for yogurt and tuna juice. The back up kitty would steal pork chops off the counter, but Mehitabel was a lady, through and through!
