Hiatus Day Two

Hitch

Hitch is my daughter’s Miniature Dachshund, a wiener party link who envisions himself a junk yard Pitbull. As a new pup given to my daughter with a will-you-marry-me-note tied to his collar, Hitch offered the proposal. As a member of our family he immediately became my grand-dogger and the subject of my first column over three years ago. Shortly after the column broke Hitch became very ill and we almost lost him. But, he's a fighter - little guys like him have to be.

Now, Hitch lives with us. (Busy road, no fence etc.) He’s pretty much ours but we haven’t told him yet. He loves us, but will always love them more, and that’s okay because he’s quick to defend us from his own shadow, a leaf blowing across the lawn as well as a house fly. He’s a snuggler who is funny, sweet and very loud. We adore him.

  1. Cuteness!

Hitch reminds me of my black and tan dachshund Skipper. He loved to be on the water (not in it).

    Have a great day, y'all!

  3. Hitch! Such a great name for a marriage-proposal-toting pup. Great name and adorable ears--what a guy!

  4. What a wonderful surprise, our Hitch the bark machine, made famous on the reef. Thanks Janet. Hitch would thank you too but he's at the window explaining to a squirrel that his yard is no place for tree- rats.

  5. Not only did Hitch make it big time at the reef today a pic of me made the front page of our local newspaper. If my husband's pic shows up on the post office wall I'm outta here.

  7. Thank you, Hitch, for giving me a moment of peace this morning with your cuteness.

I'm no longer working at a place where today is a holiday. I'm not sure if that's the reason, of if I'm just exhausted, but every little thing is threatening to send me over the edge.

  11. Hey Claire, about the chicken pillow...Hitch sleeps with it under a Bob the Builder blanket. Yes, my husband's name is Bob and Yes he is a builder.

  12. Hitch is adorable...I mean terrifying. (I didin't hurt his feelings did I?)

  13. Carolynn: did Hitch steal the blanket from your husband? That's not right! But a cute dog always has the upper paw.

  14. I love dogs so much. They each have their own unique personality and bring so much to human lives!

  15. To me, this little Sir looks kind of royal. He sits there on the sofa as if he was watching his momma (grandma?) coming with a tray to bring him his tea.

  16. 2Ns, you have a gorgeous puppy! He does look snuggly, but I'm sure a tough dog like him doesn't want to be told that.

  17. Carolynn, I hope I'm not too late for you to see this: Congratulations for making it onto the front page of the newspaper! And the Bob the Builder blanket with the connection to your husband got a good chuckle from me. :)

  18. It's late for us, watching UCONN women NCAA Final Four.
Yes Hitch is a snuggler. He sleeps with us and burrows down under the covers. He's the sweetest footwarmer there is, the fiercest defender and boy can he run fast.
