What do you mean no post today?

Sorry!
I forgot to prep one for today.

By way of excuse, I'm cat sitting (not for the Duchess of Yowl) and was too busy petting His Whiskerness to write a post.

Back on track tomorrow.

Also,
His Whiskerness, the Prince of Orange

  1. Awww!! He looks just like Sam the Cat! Speaking of whom... I don't recall seeing him this morning...

  2. Awwww. A Sweetie, that Prince of Orange.

Does this mean, since you're petting His Whiskeryness, that this is a day off from the office to get at your TBR pile?

  3. Orange cats - especially the male ones (yes, there are female ones - genetics are never perfect) - are so calm and friendly. His Whiskerness seems made for petting. Enjoy!

Lisa: Maybe Janet's allowed to take His Whiskerness to work? Some jobs allow that. Although cats don't usually travel well, especially by subway...

Janet: Looking forward to tomorrow's post! Love His Whiskerness while you've got him. :)

  4. I love big orange cats. I want a cat. Husband doesn't like cats. It's an ongoing battle which I will never win. :( To make up for it, Loaner Cat has come to visit for a few weeks because her two male apartment mates have decided she is the new punching bag. Since she's too fat to jump on anything and needs something between the floor and the bed to get up there, husband is okay with her staying. Eventually however, she goes back home and then I'm catless yet again :(

Enjoy your petting sessions. Nearly free therapy!

  5. Awww! We had a Prince of Orange, too. Known as George for Curious George, named by my son when he was young.

Oh, how I miss this guy! Give the Prince of Orange a hug from me. :)

  7. Of course you don't have a post. It's impossible to type when your fingers are embedded in fur! Enjoy your day.

  8. Handsome fellow, he is.

BJ, our orange guy, Rhubarb, is friendly, but not calm. He's got a nervous stomach and tends to flinch at loud noises and sudden movements. Probably has something to do with being at the bottom of the totem pole.

Though it should be noted that it does get him extra treats and cuddles. Hmmm. Never let it be said that Rhubarb isn't out for the main chance.

  9. Casey: Most cats are out for the main chance. :)

  10. Why post when you could be petting a kitty?

    Clearly, your priorities are straight.

Although, I wonder how you pet him without getting him damp...

  11. The Prince is darned cute. Enjoy the cat sitting gig, but maybe keep it on the down low? The DoY might get jealous!

  12. Hey, cat petting is super important, and I can see from the comments that we all understand! Granted, Elka is a dog, but I have in my life had cats. We also have bunnies now, in a hutch out back. Elka isn't too sure about them...

  13. Pet the cat. Yes. Good. So cute.

    I want a cat :/.

    My life has no meaning

  14. Aww. I have a special place in my heart for orange cats - as a child, I called them marmalades. Alas, I am sans chat for the forseeable future.

  15. Janet, it's okay to take a break. We'll manage without you. We'll miss you, but we'll manage.

  16. OH! If you want to see a picture of Sam the Cat, head over to Gary Corby's website. Scroll to the bottom, and on the right--Sam's holding a copy of THE SINGER FROM MEMPHIS. :D

  17. There is nothing like a marmalade cat. Our part-time cat at the old house was a big old ginger cat and we miss him, even with the kittens we've adopted since moving. There's something to be said for an older, staid cat….

  18. I have never had much luck with orange cats. The ones that I have met tended to be too territorial to deal with other cats. Around my house there are always other cats.

He looks more like the Duke l'Orange than the prince of orange to me.

  19. I just love it when Max the horse shows up. Even better when there's a cute cuddle buddy to accompany him.

Hope everyone's having a good day!

  20. Haven't had a cat since our last old girl passed on about seven years ago. Sadly my cat allergy has worsened (probably from a lifetime of denial - I refused to give in to the allergy and owned cats anyway). I now have to be satisfied with visiting friends with cats (although my body regrets it afterwards).

I had an orange cat when I was a kid called Ginger Meggs (although she was a she - if you are familiar with the comic strip Ginger Meggs was a he). She was a very cuddly girl.

  21. His Whiskerness appears very content.

When I was a kid, one of my chores was to take our family dog, Watch, out in the mornings. We lived in a northern area where it was frequently freezing and dark before school. I remember wishing so fervently that I could be in Watch's shoes --running out to pee, then zooming back in to my warm bed. No stress, no homework, no big kids to ignore on a school bus. What a life!

I eventually came to terms with my being a human, but some days...!

May your day be as peaceful as the Prince's!

EM, resist the existential thoughts. They'll get ya, I should know. And here is a virtual HUG from me, too.

  22. Maximus...! And an orange kitty. Two of my favorite things on the planet. I really, really love orange kitties. Last winter, I found two itty-bitty starving kittens at the abandoned house on our property. A tabby and a ginger. Gorgeous, both. I was overjoyed! They've fit in perfectly with our family, including the dogs and other cats (all of them inside, all of them all over the furniture).

Named the ginger, Butter-Bean. The tabby, Beau-Henry.

Janet... Do you horse sit? Have I got a weekend for you. :-)

  23. In the netherworld between deep REM sleep and partial wakefulness, the Prince of Orange saw clearly in a dream how to address the plot hole that had plagued a manuscript he'd thought was...

Oh, not a caption contest, sorry.

  26. Lovely (and long) name! If I was a fortunate soul to enjoy a conversation with @HisWhiskerness,thePrinceofOrange on Twitter, I might learn to stop being so long-
