Still prone

Still have the stuffing knocked out of me.
More when I'm up off the mat and back in the battle.

Love the "Sock it to em" kitty pose.

Hang in there, your moral... and immoral support team is rooting for you.

Cheers Hank

I hope you feel better soon. There's nothing worse than stuffing that won't stay where it supposed to. You feel all wilted and floppy...

It's kind of funny, this thing between "stuffing" and "dressing." In the south, it's called dressing. Yet, I grew up hearing it called "stuffing." Mom = Maine. She called it stuffing. Dad = NC. He called it dressing. Mom was The Boss. Therefore, it was stuffing until I was of an age where I could call it what I wanted.

:)

Get well soon, so you can knock the stuffing (and potatoes and cranberry sauce and gravy) back into you at dinner tomorrow!

Take care of yourself! We'll still be here. Fortify yourself with cupcake deliveries and hot toddies.

If you're suffering from the same bug that has caused havoc in our family, good luck. You know the routine: rest and plenty of fluids (preferably of the non-adult beverage kind). We found it can boomerang, too, even after a round of antibiotics. And a dry cough can last for weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

When I was a kid and down with the flu, my dad would curl my hand into a fist then raise my arm in the air while hollering, "Refuse to be sick!" Actually, he even did this when I was an adult. It made me laugh. Even as an adult. And I think it made me feel a bit better. Worth a try. :-) I'm hoping you're soon on the mend.

So even though you're IN your cat pajamas, doesn't mean you are the cat's pyjamas.

Feel better soon.

Hey Queenie, we need you on the wall, we want you on that wall.
Attention slacker, upright NOW.
NO ?
No.
No...
Okay then.
My ticket to Carkoon is punched. I was just trying to be funny.

Awww no, Janet! :( May this be the last day of it. I'd hate for you to be feeling cruddy on Thanksgiving.

Donna: I didn't realize it was a North-South thing. My understanding has always been stuffing is what you cook inside the turkey, and dressing is baked in a casserole dish separately. My wife makes vegetarian dressing to go with my Tofurky. :)

I'm trying to think of something creative to entertain Janet with today. We did flash fiction yesterday. Any ideas...?

I agree with Colin. I grew up on homemade cornbread dressing, cooked separately. My turkey will be "stuffed" with an onion, carrot, and stick of celery with dressing on the side. Although Stove-top Stuffing does throw it all into question. My theory is Kraft preferred illiteration to accuracy.

Janet, hope you're feeling much better by the end of the day. Heal!

Donna: That reminds me of the difference between sauce and gravy, especially growing up with Italian parents from NY. Both sauce and gravy are red, but gravy has meat in it (sausage, meatballs, etc). That's different from here in PA, which is primarily Dutch Country, where sauce is red and gravy is brown.

We got into an "argument" with my sister-in-law one year about it.
"But they're both red," she said.
"The gravy has meat sauce," my mom explained.
"But then what do you call the stuff you put on your turkey?"
"Brown gravy."

Dinner's always fun at my parents' house.

Happy Thanksigivng, everyone. May there be peace at your tables and joy in your hearts.

And just to add my 2 cents to the gravy debate, gravy is a sauce made from the drippings of roasting meat. You add a little flour and water and mix it up. Which is slightly different to jus, which is also made from meat drippings, but usually with wine or port added to it and reduced down until it's thick and sticky.

An Italian red sauce is also sometimes called gravy, but it's tomato based and really nothing like traditional gravy.

Yeah… My misspent youth was misspent working in kitchens.

Oh no. Hope you feel better for Thanksgiving,, Janet.

All this talk about stuffing and dressing and gravy is making me sooo hungry. And to be honest I don't even care for all that stuff. I get a little turkey and mash potatoes (generally sans anything wet on top) and then go for the DESSERTS. But there's just something about the idea of it all.

Janet, how I hope this isn't a stomach bug or you aren't reading this!

I hope that the Duchess of Yowl is still visiting, and that she performs all Doctor Kitty services, such as lying on your bladder in such a way as to make you have to go to the bathroom, but you don't want to move and disturb the cat, abdominal purring, which can help with nausea, and neck cuddling on your pillow, which has no direct benefit, but does impart a sense of well being.

Get well soon (and what a clever way to avoid unpleasant political discussions at the holiday table.)

Well, that's sad. I hope you feel better very soon.

On the bright side, at least you aren't going to try to fly to the Pacific Northwest tonight, I hope. The weather out there is frightful so stay home and get better.

With luck someone will bring you a care package to tide you over.

Get well soon my Queen.

Ah, I am happy to educate y'all regarding stuffing vs dressing. :)

This isn't the only article on it, but it captures what some of you "thought."

Dressing or Stuffing?

I said a prayer for you, Janet, in hopes you'll be back to health very soon. In the meantime, Happy Thanksgiving!

Donnaeve... I call it stuffing, although my (very formal) grandmothers both called it dressing. My paternal grandmother had to make two dressings: chestnut and oyster for my grandfather. I used to make chestnut, but it was a labor intensive project which I gave up due to time and just made the classic stuffing. From scratch, of course. I haven't made a Thanksgiving dinner in years, not since one of our children hosts the meal. We all contribute to the meal; I bake pumpkin pies and make cranberry-orange relish. My vegetarian daughter-in-law is doing the turkey today. What a wonderful woman she is -- and a teacher, too!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
