This blog is going to the dogs, Day 6

Arlo

Arlo, who thinks outside the box but inside the bag, is a deconstructivist feline artisticat who works with paper disassemblages. An interview with  Arlo and pictures of his work can be found here

Oh my goodness, artist cat. He's like a feline Salvador Dali! (I like Dali, this is meant as a compliment. I know some artist types, the statement can go either way in those circles...)

Seeing the picture of Arlo and the newspapers reminded me of the time my husband, a.k.a. DogMan, needed a large area to sort and organize a huge stack of papers. So he spread them out on the dining room carpet. Oooo, that's a bad mistake, I told him.

You'd think, at his age, he would no longer feel the need to learn things the hard way.

You'd be wrong ;~)

P.S. The reason why it was a mistake was our cat Baby. Like Arlo, Baby loves to sort papers.

A kittycat. And, snort-laugh, enjoyed Tanner's interview of Arlo and his artwork!

When my kids were young and read the Sunday comics, on the floor of course, one or both of our cats saw that as an invitation to come over and flop down in the middle of it.

Ah c'mon, someone let the cat out of the bag.

I know! I know! Going away. Adorable kitty.

As an animal lover, I'm having so much fun meeting other Reider's pets. Becky, Arlo's interview was an absolute hoot! "Sometimes I hide myself in my work—the better to find myself later, and thus my work becomes a catalyst for my own self-discovery." Hilarious! I love your writing... Fun and creative.

Middle of the night here, and about to hit the sack so will read all about the cute kitty (almost wrote pussy - it's late!) tomorrow.

But I saw this and wanted to post before everyone else gets here, 'cause this is something I think is right up the alley of some here (shitzu):

Darkhouse Books is looking for short, humorously sarcastic submissions about life under President Donald Trump. This is a quick-turnaround project with submissions closing on September 15th.

More may be found at http://darkhousebooks.com/submissions/

(Sorry, Colin, not linkified)

I guess it's about time for some cats to get here. Beautiful cat and such a fun interview--be sure to follow the link to see all of the feline-featured art work. And, I was impressed: a blogger who blogged before blogging was such a "thing" in our world. Nice blog to wander around in!

Arlo looks just like a cat I had named Jax. I loved Jax.

We don't do kitties here anymore, not that I don't think they are fine critters. Somewhere along the way though, litter boxes and cat hair (everywhere, no matter how much vacuuming) became a bit of a turn off.

Sorry cat lovers.

Now, I simply appreciate the beauty of them from afar. And Arlo here, makes me a bit melancholy about my big boy, old Action Jaxson.

I second Sherry - the interview is so cute & funny. Check it out.

Yay! Cute kitties!! And bag o' Arlo is just adorable. :)

AJ: Thanks for the tip. Here's the link: http://darkhousebooks.com/submissions/. Sleep well.

Arlo, tuxedo cat and post-post-modern artist, working with recyclable materials and home-shredding skills. He is cat-egorically fantastic! Great blog post and photo essay of his work - it left me in pieces :-)

Great post! Loved the link. The interview and pics would make a great kids book!

When I first got my cat Brigada she liked to rip pages in my school books (She also liked to rip my hands and feet). I think I've broken her of that nasty habit. Now she's moved to shredding a Persian rug (and on some nights she still attacks my feet as I get in bed).

She too has a fascination with paper sacks (and plastic bags).

She just interrupted me. She jumped on the keyboard and then on my chest and I had to hold her and pet her (she loves being rubbed under her chin). She's so sweet (when she wants to be).

I hope Arlo's mom doesn't mind, but in case you haven't read the interview, she's Becky Mushko. Becky has written a number of books, all of which are available on Amazon, if you'd like to take a look.

Since we're all about supporting our fellow Reiders in their writing endeavors, here's a link:

Oh my. Not only is Arlo handsome, he is enormously talented. His work with paper is visionary! :D

Ever since our first cat adopted us (a handsome tuxedo'd gent), we've been partial to all-black and black and white cats. Arlo sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks, Colin Smith, for your plug. I don't mind a bit. Arlo and I have been enjoying all the comments. If anyone wants to know how I acquired Arlo, this blog-post tells it: http://peevishpen.blogspot.com/2015/12/refugee-kitty.html

Poor Arlo. An artist is never truly appreciated in his hometown. He has the flair, not to mention the wardrobe, to carry off his vision. Thanks for a fun start to my morning, Becky.

Beautiful cat - great story about his art!

If you missed the very late end of yesterday's blog comments, Ms Dell herself stopped by!

I guess I need to have a talk with our little black w/white kitty. Maybe she has an artistic streak too. She seems a little flighty for it and with the new younger cat she is a bit harried. That younger cat seems to have more of an interest in art. He jumps onto Kathy's art table and splashes around more at least.

Becky, Arlo is a doll and I hope you feel privileged that he picked you. I know that I feel that way. Sometimes at least. We have three cats who decided to move in and five to eight who hang around and mooch food. The variety of personalities they have is amazing.

Morning here now and I've just read the blog by Becky. Makes me think Arlo is a much more uppercrust version of the cat who likes to hide in boxes (an absolute favourite book of my kids when they were younger).

Our last cat loved to hide in things. When she was a kitten we came home one day and couldn't find her anywhere. We hunted high and low. We were just hitting panic mode when she very casually rose up out of the inside of The Hubs motorcycle helmet. She looked around at the house (which by this stage had been totally torn apart) as if to say, "what's the fuss?".

Julie Weathers said...

Oh, my gosh. I would be losing my mind at destructo cat. But the cat in the bag makes me smile a lot. ALOT. Almost as much as Brinks.

Arlo looks so sweet and harmless. HA! Loved your story and the pics, Becky.

One of our black labs had a thing for wrapping paper (encouraged by my children). Every year at Christmas, he'd "help" unwrap gifts, biting the paper and pulling it off. He'd take the remains and make a pile, usually under the dining room table. Then he'd sit under there and tear it all to shreds. He also ate kleenex and paper towels. For him, paper products were an important food group. Sigh.

Two years ago or so, I was on a Southwest flight to Dallas. As we were taking off from DCA, my orange tabby pushed out of his under-seat carrier and jumped into the aisle from the window seat. The plane was in ascent, so I stayed seated/buckled, unsure of what to do. A male flight attendant got on the intercom and said, "Someone's cat has come to the front of the cabin. Please ring your call button if this is your cat. You need to come to the front of the cabin to collect it. You need to put the cat back in the bag."

AJ Blythe said...

What? You can take pets into the cabin on a flight? That's brilliant. In Australia they have to be caged and put in the underbelly of the flight with the luggage.

Kae Bell said...

AJ-Small dogs and cats can be in the cabin in their carrier under the seat (no bulkhead with pets). Easier on the pet I think, since can smell their person.

Catherine Vignolini said...

Man, I wish I was on that plane. Nothing good happens when I fly.

Colin Smith said...

Hmmm... Catherine, I'm not sure I want to share a plane with you if nothing good happens when you fly...!!
