No week in review this week

I've been reading my eyeballs out trying to make progress on queries and requested manuscripts.

Which means as you might guess, alot of reading:

But alot of reading often leads to alot of money:

And that means alot of fun!

And it's a lot of fun, but not a week in review.

 Instead, let's dance!

I for one don't mind you reading queries and manuscripts. Good job!

I hope you can kind of clear the docket so you enjoy your vacation more.

Wooo, reading! With a strange frequency, people will come to the front desk at the library with a HUGE pile and kind of give an embarrassed laugh and say something like "I guess I went kind of overboard", and my response is "we encourage that." Or "I got too many books", and I say "there's no such thing". I mean, too many books to read in an allotted time, sure. I do that all the time, just kinda drive books about town, maybe take them home for a nice dinner, and then they go back to the library (I read less if I'm writing intensively, write less when I'm reading intensively. If you can imagine). But books are what the library is for. As long as you can carry 'em out, take them!

Sometimes Elka and I "dance". I get her to play bow (okay, so she has "bow" on cue, and "spin", etc.) and then when we pop up she prances around. It's not quite canine freestyle (in addition to not typically dancing in public, how could I ever pick a song?), but it's a goofy bit of fun.

I love this post a lot. See you soon! And you can chew on my sample query to keep your bad self in fine form for your return.

AND NOW WE DANCE!

WooHoo! DANCE PARTY! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2XirHXS2k8

Hope you have a great vacation!

What's that - you're letting your JOB get in the way of our pleasure?! On behalf of all those who sent you queries or MSs, thank you. Enjoy your vacation.

What Julie and Kitty said.
Ditto dance party.

Here's a bit of Sunday morning wisdom I posted on Saturday. I think I needed to convince myself of something, so I hung this on my mind.
If I may Janet, for all you writers struggling to find the words and finish, here's one for just for you...and me.

Try.
If we don’t try, don’t finish and simply dream, wonder and wait, we self-prophesize ourselves to fail.

Based on your twitter feed, you done good on the query bit. Congrats! I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

The books in those photos look suspiciously like maybe you know those authors =)

It's been 105 degrees here for the past few days, and we have at least one more day of it. Ugh. My #3 son was supposed to go backpacking in the mountains this weekend, but a fire in that area resulted in an evacuation on Friday evening.

I can't wait for November. Anyone have any rain they can send this way?

A vacation-mode post if ever there was one. :)

That shark has more rhythm than me - even after a couple shots of tequila.

I know you can't hardly wait, and after this past week if you decide "dark" is best here in blogosphere, I'd say that might be a good thing.

Here's to VACATION PREPARATION WEEK!

And a very loud WHOOP! Just to get it started.

That's alot of alots! I hope you get alot done so you can have alot of fun on your vacation, Janet. :)

Always happy to dance to Rosanne Cash!

Yay! A pre-vacation dance party. I suggest we all watch the dance competition scene in Pulp Fiction--great moves by Uma Thurman and John Travolta.

And reading---what else is the weekend for?

Less blog writing time, more ms reading for you = less blog reading time, more ms writing for me.

It feels reassuringly symbiotic. I like this alot!

*dance dance dance*

Good thing the comment section doesn't have a skype/facetime feature.

Just got home from a long walk with my hubby, so I don't think I'll suggest another dance session to him like we did two days ago, but dance away everyone.

I second what Donnaeve said about relaxing and going dark for a week. Don't forget, a lot of money means a lot of shark shoes.

I have slaved over my query for quite some time and I think today I have finally come up with one FTW. So, yes, I will do a victory dance after all!

Just in case someone out there isn't familiar with the alot:

Ergh, now my youngest Barbarian wants a dancing shark - just like that one!

Totally get the need to catch up and clear the desk. I'm doing the same because it's conference week for me *grin*. 4 blissful days totally emerged in a world of writing. It's like an annual shot of inspiration.

The fact I won't have to be chief cook, taxi driver and bottle washer also helps, lol.

Good luck with your catch-up, JR!

Amy, thanks alot.

I was alot confused. (Picture Alot with a question mark over his/her head.)

Dena, you are welcome to all of our rain. We have an awful lot. I mean, a lot. Which is to say, a goodly amount. It's all yours.

Janet, I wish you a restful and relaxing Sunday. And lots of fun. And scotch.

Amy: I love that Alot!

Have fun reading, Janet! I've been reading heaps this weekend (some of it annoying as all get out and DNF, and some of it wonderful and amusing and just right) so I've not been commenting OR writing much.

BAD writer.

I'll get right back to it...

...just as soon as I finish this book.

Kae Ridwyn said...

Thanks for the link, Amy - it cleared the confusion! :)

Have a wonderful holiday Janet! Where did you get your alots? I love that you have more than one! Mental note: things to casually mention lots of times to loved ones in the approach to Christmas. :)

At the risk of taking things off topic - does anyone know what is happening with Ally Brosch? I know after her depression issues she had to pare back the work rate and of course that's totally understandable. But I am still hoping for another book at some point... or at least a blog post...

Reading week. Love the little Alot covered in bills. Thanks for the link , Amy.

AJ Blythe said...

So until I read Angie's comment I had no idea what an Alot was. Reading people's comments and puzzling... A US slang term for an axolotl? A typo that was being picked on? How many queries QOTKU has to read?

Now I figure it's a papier mache creature? Or am I still way off the mark?

Anonymous said...

Aj: It's a typo 'alot' instead of 'a lot' and then a random genius has found a way to make fun of it that isn't mean :D

AJ Blythe said...

Ahhh, thanks W.R.!

Sam Hawke said...

AJ - you should immediately read everything on the Hyperbole and a Half blog, because it is actually the funniest thing on the internet.

Carolynnwith2Ns said...

W.R. Gingell, I love when folks call 'alot' a typo. When I did it, a lot, it was always a bold-faced downright error until Janet posted about it.

AJ Blythe said...

Sam, I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!
