Clean or messy?

I like a clean desk.
My two office mates think that's insane.
Fortunately, they have to listen to me, not the other way around.

I thought of this when I read Robert Gray's piece.  I knew I liked him, now I know he's my idol.  Just look at his desk!

Are you clean or messy?

Send me a photo of your desk and I'll post it here on the blog!  (sorry, I have to actually go get some work done now!)
And when you're done with that, make sure you subscribe to Shelf Awareness.  It's a free daily email about the book biz, and you can't be in the book biz and not read it.

I never even sit at my desk! I prefer the view and the light from the living room windows, so I've turned my ottoman into a makeshift desk. It has the side benefit of being a comfy place to put my feet up. It's also the cat's favorite place to sit, and on cold days he'll keep my feet warm.

That being said, my ottoman is in need of a tidying up. :D

I like tidy, but it's always messy...It's a mystery.

This is my desk. It looks a little cluttered in the picture, mostly because I like having things at hand when I need them (pens, chapstick, cup o' tea). I looooove my desk so much. I had a hard time finding exactly the desk I wanted so I built it by hand and filled it with all sorts of custom knick-knacks. Keeping it nice and clean makes me happy :)

That last one is my dream desk - not about messy or clean, but about location and mood! :D Haha As long as it helps you create...and you can still FIND STUFF :D

My desk is a light oak color. I think. It's hard to find a clear spot to see for sure...

But I want-want-want that treadmill desk-- if only I had room for one!

My desk is my kitchen table. I'm lucky, my kitchen is huge and really quite nice. To my right are windows overlooking the woods behind the house. The view is very pleasant, I'm close to food and once in a while I'm forced to clean off my desk when we actually eat at the table instead of in front of the TV.

Some day I hope to have a desk to write at. (Right now I write on the couch or the rocking chair with my computer on my lap while the kids run rampant.) ;)
When I get that desk, it will most likely be messy. Unless I've matured by then and become someone cleaner, but I doubt it. :)

Ah, no desk for me. I write in a big squishy chair surrounded by notes and snacks and black cats.

I liked Stephen King's take on his writing desk. In his great book "On writing". Essentially he had a custom wood beauty built but it didn't work for him. He preferred writing under an eave with no window to distract him.
