Of course, I live in Los Angeles. Let's hope all these bookcases are secured properly to the wall. An earthquake during Thanksgiving dinner could be catastrophic.
Heh - I looked at this and thought, "Wow! Eating with books!" ... closely followed by and WINE GLASSES - which means great libations in the library.
My final thought was - and thank GOD I'm not cooking that meal. After preparing 4 T-giving meals - from 150 people down to 12 I would be damn glad to just sit there - drink - talk books and writing - and let someone else please my palate.
Last year we closed down our little flea market/junk shop to move to larger quarters and concentrate on our website business.
As our town is too small to support an indie bookstore, we had developed a pretty decent used book selection. At the auction I let 4000 books PB and HB run free, back into the wild.
That photo makes me feel warm and fuzzy. What's more important, books or a gilded dining room table? The first thing my husband and I did when we moved into our house was build floor to ceiling bookshelves. I still don't have a dining room table. I do however own, an encyclopedia of needlework, firearms, and Naval Documents of the Revolutionary War. It's enough that I can look up tidbits of info without Google and discover even more relevant information on the next page, something I never thought of, something no Google search would produce, because who knew that the first Nation to acknowledge the United States of America as an independent nation was the tiny island of St. Eustatius? President Roosevelt signed documents to this effect.
I'm honored to be a minor contributor to BiblioBuffet and only wish Nicki would invite me to eat at that table for T'giving next year - the dining room I ate in this year had zero books in it!
That's an eye catching dining space, and a pretty, eclectic table setting--the sign of a wonderful hostess (or host).
Terri and Sha'el, I'll bet if you ask Stephen Parrish nicely, he would teach you to embed those links. I would do it myself, but he's the master. He taught me, and this is one way of showing him my gratitude. I think of him every time I make one.

Beautiful.
One of our reasons for moving out of our two bedroom condo into a 3 bedroom house- the books needed a few rooms of their own.
I look at that picture and think: "It's a good start."
When I saw this, I felt warm and fuzzy, and I chuckled because my dining room did look a bit like this, for ten years.
And I wonder why no one wants to help me move...

This pic reminds me of that part of our shop
::gets nostalgic::
Terri
I'm glad you liked the picture. Full disclosure--the plates are set carefully to hide the holes in the table cloth.
It was a nice dinner though. We all talked about what we were reading. ;-)
And I thought I was the only one who horded books!
I never get rid of a book I love. Which reminds me, I need more bookshelves.
This is actually appropriate to this photo.

I don't think we'll be seeing this book is this pic any time soon!
Terri
I want one of the seats facing the books (I know, people will think I'm rude, as I look past them as I read titles)
food, friends, books... wunderbra! :)
Hmmmm, I'd move the table and set up a reading chair. *daydreams*
That's what I want my house to look like when I'm grown up, stuffed wall to wall with the best books I can find.
Food, books and wine...I'd never leave.

Oh, what a marvelous room! I want to be invited next year!
Aside from the gorgeous books, I love the tea set!
This is what heaven probably looks like :).

The photo of my writing space - or a small bit of it - came out really dark. But for what it's worth, you can see it on my blog:

That is definitely a happy photo. You might like the setting of my little family's Thanksgiving dinner, which is similar:

I promise I'm not an evil robot and that link just leads to my book blog.
My dream dining room. Actually, I once saw a NY apartment with a library/dining room to utilize space.

I totally get the gold table cloth, the chairs, and the china, but what are those things stacked on the floor and cluttering the shelves?
Hey! How did you get a picture of my apartment?
